The power of optimismWhat is the power of optimism ?  Is your glass half full or half empty?  Are you optimistic about your business, your outlook or your opportunities?  Would you like to find out?  I’m going to show you how you can get a score reflecting the potential for optimism in your workplace with access to insights from experts including Shawn Achor (a top TEDx speaker and author) and Anne Rhoades (co-founder of JetBlue).

The Power of Optimism

Xerox have been looking into the Return on Optimism and have created a questionnaire with just 10 questions to see how you score on your optimism chart, and how this affects your business.

You can actually calculate your return on optimism

The power of optimism

With 10 Questions such as

What percentage of your work would you define as meaningful?

How would you describe your workspace?

What is your Return on Optimism

You are then scored out of 100 to see how you score

The Power of Optimism

Looks like my score is pretty high, I am very optimistic about my work, I love what I do and where I do it, I’m always learning, and yet I’ve learned so much, I know there are still more great things to come.

After  you have received your score you will then see how your answers compare with others in your field, which is very interesting.

For me its all about positive thinking – I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but if you get into a downward spiral when things are going wrong and you start thinking dark thoughts – such as, this is no good, I’m not going to make this business work, or I’m not going to get this client, or today is going to be a bad day invariably thats what happens.

The power of optimism is in positive thinking,  look for the best in any situation,  expect good things to happen and actually believe that.  Even with a few set backs with positive thinking you can bounce back and think, okay we can learn from that and think about the possibilities and lessons we can gain from it.  We all know that quote from Dr. Seuss and he really has a point..

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
― Dr. Seuss

The power of optimism is contagious –  if you are optimistic and positive, others around you will feel the same, they will

Optimism and Health

Optimism is not only good for business, its even been proven that positive thinking can actually be good for your health – studies have found that optimists are less likely to develop heart disease and of course is good for your blood pressure.

So, take the test or they are calling it a survey because I guess they are collecting the answers and see how you fair on the optimism scale.  You don’t even have to put in your email address, it takes 2 mins and its fun actually.  – Link here

Do you have the power of optimism and if not, it might be time to start thinking how you can turn your thoughts around, and think positively, for the good of your business, those around you and  your health.

Before I go, I will leave you with this great quote…

An optimist is someone who goes after Moby Dick in a rowboat and takes the tartar sauce with him.” –Zig Ziglar
