How do I remove the Ask toolbar from Google Chrome

How do I remove the Ask toolbar from Google Chrome

I’m not sure how I got this darn thing, but I have been downloading a few different drawing packages so I’m assuming I allowed it entry from something there.

What was happening is that every time I put a word in the address bar (omnibox) – whereas normally it would bring up Google search – this annoying Ask search thing would come up.

Look what happens when I type in Walk Off The Earth in the address bar……   <– see my review there – Great Band

These are Asksupports instructions that didn’t work for me but they might for you.

To remove the Ask Tool Bar from Chrome

– In an open Chrome browser, click on the Wrench In the top right-hand corner of the browser window.
– Hover over Tools In the menu that appears and click on Extensions.
– Locate the Ask extension and click the Remove button next to it.
– Click Uninstall In the box that appears.
– Close and re-open your browser. To reset your Chrome homepage, please follow the steps listed below:- Click the Wrench icon on the toolbar.
– Select “Options” (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on a Chromebook).
– Click the “Basics” tab and find the “Home page” section.
– Enter your desired homepage in the section labeled “Open this page”To reset your default search provider for Chrome, follow these steps:- Continuing under the “Basics” tab, select the search engine you want to use from the dropdown box next to the “Search” label.
– If the search engine you want to use doesn’t appear in the menu, click “Manage search engines”.
– In the “Search Engines” window that appears, make your selection from the list provided.
– Click the “Make Default” button that appears next to your selection and your choice will be saved.

I couldn’t see an Ask Extension in Google, then I was told it was a Foxit extension, well I didn’t have that either, so I disabled all extensions, and restarted, it was still there.

Then I looked in settings……

Click on the top right, of Google Chrome they say wrench but mine is just three lines.

Customise and control Google Chrome

Click settings

Look down the page to Search

Mine looked like this – DUH!

All I had to do is change Ask – to Google, and it was done, no restarting or anything.

So easy and yet, so annoying as it was thought to be an extension – I will now have to check that this doesn’t change when I restart my computer, which would mean I have a hijack somewhere, but for now, Google is back !

Now thats a search! 🙂

Hope this helps you too.

How to change your Twitter Header Photo 2016

How to change your Twitter Header Photo 2016

I’ve noticed people heading over to this page, so its time for a 2016 UPDATE

Its so much simpler now.

Click your own name to open up your page fully and at the top you will see your cover picture – underneath it says EDIT PROFILE

When you click this it lets you change your cover or header photo, your profile picture, your name and your bio.

header photo

Just click change your header photo – upload your image and save changes.  The best size for the Twitter header photo is 1263 x 421

Although twitter recommends 1500 x 500 it come out too large and twitter allows you to adjust it but for me, it just never works.

If you haven’t updated your twitter, then you may still be able to use the instructions below for 2015.

More changes on Twitter, what next ?

As you probably know Twitter has made some changes, see here if not -> Twitter announces new profile pages and iPad app –  You can now add your own Header image as would on Facebook or Google

I’m going to show you with some pictures to help –  how to change your banner, header or cover picture as we know it. I’m going to use my other twitter account as after the first time it looks slightly different.

NB  – Click this link if you are looking for instructions on ->>> how to add the 2014 header photo on Twitter

1)  Click on the Cog

2)  Click on settings

3) Click Design

4) Click Change Header

5)  Upload an image

Image minimum dimensions are 1252 x 626 <- it says minimum here but I’ve not used 1252 at all.

Maximum file size is 5MB

6) Click Save – this might take a little while

 7) Save changes at the bottom

8) Click Me  – which is now at the top, next to Discover,  to see your picture

And is done – you will notice that now your direct messages are also available by clicking the envelope on the ME tab.

For the new addition in the iPad application you need to download the update.

How to add your Banner image using the iPad application.

You need to start this time on the ME the tab

1) Click the Cog

2) Edit Profile

3) Header

4) Choose photo – move and scale

5) Save

And thats it.

I think I like the changes – but I am going to have to change my twitter backgrounds now as they just don’t look right.

Have fun changing your images.

Hope this hopes

How to find an RSS feed on a Blogger Blogspot blog.

The reason for this post is that I wanted to add someones RSS feed to my new reader and for some reason they don’t have it displayed on their blog and this is how I found it

What is an RSS feed – This is a very detailed blog about what is RSS on Problogger, everything you need to know is there about RSS feeds.

How to find an RSS feed on a blogspot blog.

Blogspot, thought they would make this difficult to find for some reason as,  most blogs or websites you would just type /feed or /rss something like that at the end of the URL but blogger in its wisdom decided to use this….

So all you have to do is just add that to the end of the blogspot url like this…

This is my cousins awesome blog btw, about love, laughter, movies, books, reviews, and beauty, things she loves basically 🙂

You can check that is it correct by typing that into your search bar, if its correct you will see something like this

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><rss xmlns:atom='' xmlns:openSearch='' xmlns:georss='' xmlns:gd='' xmlns:thr='' version='2.0'><channel><atom:id>,1999:blog-821247123802100396</atom:id><lastBuildDate>Fri, 20 Jan 2012 04:09:42 +0000</lastBuildDate><category>Charlotte</category><category>Club Tropicana</category><category>Swoon</category><category>Natalie Portman</category><category>Wuthering Heights</category><category>Edward Cullen</category><category>ITV2</category><category>Eddie Redmayne</category><category>Photo</category><category>90's</category><category>Movie</category><category>The Hills</category><category>Posh Spice</category><category>Take That Reunion.</category><category>Tom Cruise</category><category>Robbie Williams</category><category>Mick Hucknall</category><category>Nanny Pat</category><category>Royal Albert Hall</category><category>Destiny</category><category>dating</category><category>Handsome</category><category>Spice Girls</category><category>Kelly and Jack Osbourne</category><category>Phil Collins</category><category>Celestine Prophecy</category><category>Brother</category><category>New York</category><category>Isabel Losada</category><category>alanis morrisette</category><category>Tulisa</category><category>Wedding</category><category>Christmas</category><category>saggittarian</category><category>Madonna</category><category>josie gibson</category><category>Stephanie Meyer</category><category>Christina Aguilera</category><category>The best thing I never had</category><category>Atomic Kitten</category><category>journalist</category><category>Last Christmas</category><category>Snow</category><category>Love</category><category>Meg Ryan</category><category>George Michael</category><category>Cheryl Cole</category><category>Prince</category><category>girlie</category><category>heels</category><category>Kate Bush</category><category>Victoria Beckham</category><category>Simply Red</category><category>Someone like you</category><category>Kate Winslet</category><category>bloggers</category><category>George Clooney</category><category>Prince William</category><category>Golden Globes</category><category>Fairytale</category><category>NYC</category><category>quote</category><category>John James and Josie</category><category>Audrina</category><category>All the lovers</category><category>The Battersea Park Road to Paradise</category><category>Bridget Jones</category><category>Josh Holloway</category><category>Gym</category><category>Greek</category><category>Blackberry</category><category>Princess Diana</category><category>Princess and the Frog</category><category>DJ</category><category>new year</category><category>Obama</category><category>Grey's Anatomy</category><category>Love.</category><category>N-Dubz</category><category>Reunion</category><category>Marilyn Monroe</category><category>Smug marrieds</category><category>School</category><category>shoes</category><category>blonde</category><category>Kevin Truong</category><category>Rpyal Wedding</category><category>Single</category><category>jennifer grey</category><category>recycling</category><category>Britney Spears</category><category>Sex and the City</category><category>kisses</category><category>paradise</category><category>Top Gun</category><category>Jessica Biel</category><category>Yoga</category><category>McSteamy</catego

How to enable the new Blogger or Blogspot new threaded comments

Bloggers on Google’s Blogger blog sites have been asking the question for a long time, when will we get threaded comments like you can have on websites such as wordpress.

Now they can, today Blogger announced they have made another improvement to Blogger and that is that they new support threaded commenting.

Threaded commenting makes it much easier to see whether someone is actually just commenting on the blog or in fact replying to another comment.

This makes it much more likely for people to leave feedback on a blog as they can submit there on view on someone else’s response to your blog post.

For instance – on my blog problems with twitter on the iphone 4s

Bob might comment – This solution didn’t fix it for me, its still not working.

Janice can now reply to Bobs comment  – You must be doing something wrong, as it worked for me and hopefully Bob has clicked notify by mail of any updates to comments on this post – then Bob will see it and he could even reply back.

Where as before Janice would have written Bob you must be doing something wrong.  And now that comment could be far away from Bob’s comment and make no sense to anyone and now we have a discussion going on right on our blogs.

This should be enabled without you doing anything but you can check by going to

SettingsOther and click Full from the Allow Blog Feed drop down.

And then go to SettingsPosts and Comments and select Embedded from the Comment Location dropdown.

There are some problems however, bloggers are complaining that if you get a few blog comments it does take a long time to load the page.  Also some gadgets aren’t working, it is suggested that if this is happening that you reset the gadget to default.

If the new threaded comments are there but not working  – Helen, beauty blogger from Sparlz and Shine read that someone took off all of their gadgets and readded one by one to find the offending gadget, and it was the twitter gadget. Helen removed this and all its fine.

One more thing if you have  a custom template, not just a premade blogger template it seems you might not have the feature at all yet, some do and some don’t.

Enjoy the new feature bloggers 🙂

Hope this helps

Thanks to @tsunimee for her tweets 🙂

Don’t give up! New Year’s Resolutions [Infographic]

It seems that New years resolutions are made to break, a little bit like rules!

We seem to set ourselves impossible tasks or too many at once.

We are 10 days into 2012 now… How are you doing with your 2012 resolutions?

If you said you were going to Eat Healthy Food and went out for a huge steak and chips this weekend, does that mean you’ve failed as this infographic suggests?  No, of course not – it just means you tripped up along the way. Besides you can have a treat now and then, ok it was a little early into the year, but don’t give up!

If you have chosen more than one resolution such as…

  1. Get Fit
  2. Loose weight
  3. Give up Smoking
  4. Get a better job
  5. Leave Facebook
  6. Join Google+

…just decide which one is the most important and stick to that for 6 months or so, then maybe tackle the next one.  You will just go crazy trying to do them all at once and probably give up completely.  Choose the easiest first like joining Google+ 🙂

Keep trying

You can make the resolutoins at any point in the year by the way, it doesn’t have to be new year, maybe decide that in March you will start going to the gym after you have not smoked for 3 months, your body will love you for it.

I like to see these targets as Goals – rather than New Years Resolutions. Set yourself Goals throughout the year, and if you don’t achieve it at first, carry on, don’t give up, you know what you need to do, so just keep trying. Ask for help, no one will think any less of you – get support from friends, family, doctors or other professionals that are there to help.

Don’t set yourself impossible tasks – perhaps just take little steps towards it.

How are you doing with your resolutions?  Are you winning?  What resolutions did you make?

How to get Facebook’s new Timeline and What the heck is it?

introducing timeline

Can’t wait to get Facebook’s New Timeline ?

You will have it very soon, don’t worry! However if you have been chomping at the bit since the launch of Timeline in December for your Facebook Profile to change and can’t wait any longer you can get it right now.

Before we go into that, some are still asking – What is Facebook timeline?  Facebook timeline is a new profile layout that will show your Facebook activity from the time you joined Facebook. In a Time… Line!  Clever?  So, now your Facebook friends can look through your whole Facebook networking history not just what you posted today or last week.  Fun or Scary?  You may want to change some settings, I will show you how. I’m surprised actually that some of my most safety conscious friends are loving the new timeline.

This is Mick Say’s Timeline…He’s from the Online Marketing Academy – I’m sure he won’t mind me showing you what it looks like.

I do like the fact that you can have a cover picture (the large picture at the top) it makes the page look much more professional and interesting.

Ok I will stop going on and tell you how to get the new Facebook timeline now.

All you have to do is go to Facebook’s page Introducing timeline and click the green button at the bottom of the page get timeline

Thankfully you have a full Seven days to play around with how it looks and the privacy settings, which you will want to change, before it actually goes live on your own Facebook page. However if you are finished editing or don’t want to you can publish it whenever you like.  Even if you don’t activate the New timeline now, when it eventually does come to you, you still get those seven days to adjust the settings or remove posts that you don’t want to be seen.

I can see this being a problem for those people that only go on to Facebook once a week – I’m sure there are such people – they won’t even know that the new timeline is on their page.  So getting it now might be an option for them.

You can remove certain stories – posts or comments for which I wrote a blog about in  September on Adding and Removing Stories (Pictures and statuses) from your New Timeline.

To alter how posts are seen and who by

Go to your Activity Log which is the button on the right under your cover picture.

Here you can alter each item to Public, Friends, friends except acquaintances, only me or custom, and more. Or you can remove it.

This on the Facebook help pages there is  “Timeline: A New King of Profile” this will give you all of the information that you need to know about the timeline.

Timeline Basics

Related Topics

I think that just about covers it, I hope that you are now clear on what Facebook’s new timeline is and how to change the settings.  If you have any questions and can’t find the answer, please don’t hesitate to put a comment here and I will try to help you with it.
Hope this helps.

Social networking at its best with is a social networking platform where users can trade help for free. officially launched about two weeks ago and as far as I can make out is the work of Adam Rodnitzky, George Aspland and Scott Roberts who are all listed as co-founders.

I signed up today for and I have enjoyed helping a few people out, and finding out all about it, I think it is going to be a great “help” to all.

It is simple to sign up – you can just log in with your Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter and link the others and you simply connect to help others and ask for help.

Its a fantastic idea, as sometimes we all need a little assistance, getting that blog seen or a tweet heard, and here you feel no shame in asking for help.  Although most of what I have seen is people helping not asking, I had to look around for people that needed help.

When you ask a favor, people can answer you, or broadcast it on their various networks or vouch for you, its very simple, and just a click of a button. Sometimes you do have to modify a question so that it is ready for tweeting or sharing but it takes minutes – we will get used to how to actually “ask” more efficiently.

Here is a question from Adam himself…

The more you add people, help people or even ask for help the better reputation you get. Yes again – points make prizes, as everything is tracked.   You can even give and/or get special awards. You might think, oh this is just another way to show your online influence but in my mind this a fantastic way stop people just going on and expecting everyone to do them favors as it will soon reveal that they aren’t helping.  There is also a relationship tracking feature which show which users have helped you the most.

I am finding Favors a little show at times, but I think maybe it might take a little while for them to cope with the rush.  A few times I’ve had this message come up, with a really funny video.

I can see this being put in our daily (possibly less often) tasks to help and connect with others (people like it when you share and help) whilst also getting some help yourself.   This really could build some great relationships, with people that you are connected to already and people that you are not. If integrate with empire avenue I think it will really take off big time, lets see!  I am excited about this. 🙂

Hope this helps.

Strict Nat problem with Modern Warfare 3 – Call of Duty

The time had come! Modern Warfare 3 was released yesterday,  eager gamers – queued up to get their copy first lastnight at 12am.

Only to find when they returned on that they had a strict nat not an open nat on their Xbox 360 and couldn’t join any online games.

We had the same problem, strange though as it often happens with us, not sure if its due to the ip address not being static or the fact something is set up wrong on the router, but set everything up correctly for two Xboxes on the router – anyway I digress.

This is what we do, when one of the xboxes have a strict nat – we do this on the xbox – not the router.

Follow this video its as easy as pie and takes 5mins – Fix your nat settings for xbox360 this should work, if only for the time being.

Otherwise Xbox has their own instructions here –

Error: Your NAT type is set to strict (or moderate)

Last Modified 9/8/2011

If you can’t join online games or hear other players in games or chat, you might have a Network Address Translation (NAT) problem. If you have NAT problem, you will see a NAT warning icon when you test your Xbox LIVE connection.

You have a NAT problem

1: Restart your network equipment
2: Turn on UPnP on your network hardware
3: Simplify your setup

Fix…. My iPhone 3gs won’t restore after iOS5

Did you say this? My iPhone 3gs won’t restore after iOS5

My story…

After patiently waiting for 4 days for the dust to settle before I attempted to download the  iOS 5 Software Update for iPhone, some iPod touch and iPad . I connected up my iPhone and opened iTunes.

I was still apprehensive as so many people have had various problems, like music disappearing, album covers gone, various error messages but then some people said it was all fine and hunky dory.  To be safe I didn’t just rush and download the iOS software update – first I installed the updated iTunes, sync’d and backed up the iPhone and making sure everything was up to date, hoping this would help.

iOS5 downloaded in about 8 mins and installed really quickly, I thought it was too good to be true when it said iTunes needs to do a restore to complete. It went through the restore process only to come up with a message, saying that this unit could not be restored. Gutted – Try again and it says your phone is in recovery mode you must restore this iPhone.

Alert text: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode..."

– then again the message – an error occurred while restoring this phone – it just goes into a loop.   I tried to restore it two more times before I gave up. My iPhone was useless, thanks iTunes.

Recovery mode, I don’t like this picture.

I did a little search on Twitter and Google to see if any others were having the same problem, indeed they were. However, no one could suggest a solution. Most seemed to be taking their unusable mobiles into Apple to see a genius.

ITunes and me have never had a good relationship  (I’m not sure if it is only since I have had windows7) so I knew what to do to get my phone back to normal. If you ever that the cannot restore problem this is what you need to do.

Plug it into another PC or laptop – and do the restore from there.

Then plug it back into your own PC and restore the back up that you already have saved.

Done, iPhone back to normal.

The only problem is this does not give you iOS5 and once you have done this you will be back to the old version.  But, at least your phone works and you have all of your numbers, apps and details back.

Now I am not sure whether to try again and see if it works this time or leave it  until there is a fix or I can get to an apple store to report this as a bug.

Fix below ……

If anyone has the reason that this is happening I would be grateful if you posted the answer on here, or if you found a way around it.

It would also be great to know, who had this problem, and are they using windows 7 – so don’t be shy – let us know.  Maybe we can help each other

I have finally found out what was wrong – I had error codes 1603 and 6 – this fix wasn’t on apple, these were….

Things I tried

  • Restarting everything
  • Restarting apple mobile device in services
  • unplugging all usb’s
  • plugging lead in different usb ports
  • making sure everything was allowed in Zone Alarm – Firewall
  • allowing and un-allowing bonjour access to the internet
  • Stopping various things running in taskmanager that I though might affect it.

Finally ……

I just turned off the Zone Alarm (firewall) and restarted the PC

Fixed, I now have iOS 5 – and now I’m going to upgrade to an iPhone 4S LOL well not just yet.

Hope this helps

Blackberry down for 3rd day – USA join the club!

Blackberry users are still suffering with a lack of email, internet and BBM messaging!  Users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East have had to endure these outages for a total of THREE days, some of which was intermittent.  However, the drama just increased furthers as now we are hearing of user in America losing services as well.  Americans on Twitter seem to be in shock that they have no service on their Blackberry even though this has been going on in other parts of the world for two days.

PerezHilton is not pleased as we can see from this tweet.

And Kourtney Kardashian said….

Rim – Research in Motion has issued the following statement regarding the outages.

“The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure,”

“Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible.  We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed.”

Although Blackberry understand that problems can happen, they cannot understand, why it is taking so long to fix, or why they cannot be told how long it is going to be down for.  I assume this is because they just don’t know.

In the meantime this doesn’t look good for RIM who’s shares fell abruptly yesterday – after falling all year.

Hopefully this will be resolved soon, before users get really annoyed and get themselves down to an Apple store for an Apple iPhone 4S.

No, they wouldn’t do that – would they?

Hope this helps.
