DrawingSomething Application including Bugs and Fixes

Its been all go recently with Intragram being bought by Facebook and now DrawSomething from OMGPOP being bought by Zynga of Farmville fame for massive amounts of money it seems. Hopefully Zynga will sort out some of the problems that people are experiencing.

Where can I play DrawSomething

If you still don’t know what Drawsomething is (where have you been?) – it is a drawing game similar to Pictionary where you draw a picture and people guess what it is, you can play this with Facebook friends or random people using the iPhone or iPad from iTunes.

You can also play it directly from Facebook or on Google Plus.

The app has a free game and a paid game – the only difference I can see is that you do not get adverts on the paid game.

People are really good at this game, you can see some of the drawings on the DrawSomething Facebook page

iSketch

I played DrawSomething on Facebook first because it reminded me of a browser based game which I was addicted to about 12 years ago called iSketch which is still there after all of these years, I think they should have created an application don’t you.  There is an application called iSketch but this is just a basic painting app. The best game play of DrawSomething is actually on the iPad, I love how you can just Draw something and then put it down for as long as you like.

Drawsomething has bugs

There are however many bugs still within the Drawsomething application.  I’ve had one where the application got confused and showed my drawing with the previous drawings letters, so the letters didn’t fit the drawing. Like this one drawn on the iPhone (which I find difficult so don’t laugh! LOL )

Missing Colours, Bombs and Coins

On the game you can buy coins to buy new colours and bombs which can give you new words or hints.

Users also have other bugs where coins, bombs and colours – colors – are missing. I read these responses and fixes on the getsatisfaction forum, which is for all support for the game – only go there if you are not easily offended. 🙂

Here’s Swiftor’s official response:

They are safe, but your game client is not reading your inventory info from our servers properly. We’re looking into this – but in the meantime, there are a couple of things you can try doing to get them to show up:
1) If you’re on Wifi, and your device supports 3g/4g – try that. There are reported cases of coins/etc not showing up on wifi. (or vice versa)

2) You can try killing the app and restarting it (or restarting your phone).

Again, we’re looking into a final solution for this!

Another response was from a user call SVNDR – DS is DrawSomething. This fix he says is for iPhone 4s and iPad. Many people said this has worked.

1. Kill all backgrounding apps, including DS (double click home button).

2. Re-open DS.

3. Click the little gear in the top right-hand corner.

4. Click on account.

5. Now, scroll to the very bottom of that page a click logout, then confirm the next message that pops up (if one does)

6. You should now be logged out and at the screen to select either Facebook or Email.

7. Now close DS and then kill it in the backgrounding bar like you did in step 1.

8. Wait about 5-10 second then re-open DS.

9. Wait for it to load to the screen to select between Facebook or Email.

10. Click on whatever form of login you would normally use (i use Facebook).

11. Enter your email and password, then continue to login as normal.

12. Now this is what i think truely helps, so make sure you pay attention and DO NOT skip any of the previous, or next steps!!
Once you are logged in, DO NOT touch anythng, instead look in the top left-hand corner off the main screen, you should see a faint loading icon that spins around. Wait until that icon is completely gone until you continue to the next step.

13. Now that the loading icon is gone, DO NOT open or continue playing any games, yet. First, scroll to the very bottom of the main screen and click on the ‘SHOP’ button.

14. If you previously had purchased bombs, you should now see at the bottom that you have your bombs back, this should most likely mean that your colours and coins have returned aswell.

15. If you did not previously have bombs then you should see the top of the screen in the left-hand side that your coins are back.

Many users are also having problems with games not loading, both on the free game and the paid version –  some games are showing waiting for next player.  There are hundreds of complaints about this on the site, and as yet I have not found a solution, although the above might work.  If you have tried this or have a different solution can you please let us know.

Apart from all that it is a great game and very addictive, but as I say you can just play for a few mins and then put it down for however long you want and it will still be at the stage you left it.

Hope this helps

Storify launches a new look with a stronger foundation today!

I’m glad to read today that Storify have made lots of changes – They say they have rebuilt it from the ground up.

Storify is a new way of blogging your life in social media – You can make stories from the social web using moments, tweets, in the realtime. Just search on a subject on various platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, and Google plus and make your own story!

Storify was Co-founded by@burtherman and @xdamman

I’ve always loved the idea of this, but to be honest most of the time, it didn’t work that well for me for various reasons, but now they have made big changes, I hoping that my problems with Storify are all over.  Then instead of screen printing the results like this I can actually embed a story.

The changes are …….

  • A new logo and new look. The search and the editor sides of the interface have been switched, and we have made it easier to add text to stories. Photo searches are displayed in gallery format and pictures shown larger in stories. Saving stories is more reliable.
  • A revised bookmarklet and all-new Storypad that lets you collect and save media from all over the web, and easily share what you’ve gathered with other Storify users. You can use media from anyone’s Storypad in any story.
  • Smoother drag-and-drop functionality, which makes it easier to build stories and reorganize them.
  • A collapsed view of your Storify story while it’s being built, so you can see it easily and organize it better.
Okay so maybe its not going to correct my problems of embedding the stories to WordPress and not really getting an answer on twitter, but I love it so much – I will carry on with how I am using it already, and hope they keep going with the improvements. Its worth the wait. Love it!
Hope this helps

The New Social Networks set to take on Twitter – Meet Subjot and Heello

New Social Networks set to take on Twitter

New Social Networks set to take on Twitter

Yes, new social networks launched recently – Subjot and Heello.

We’ve all heard about Google+ the project that aims to make sharing on the web more like sharing in real life is its claim. With its Circles, Sparks and Hangouts it makes it a little different to Twitter and Facebook.

However in the past two weeks we  have seen two new kids on the block.

Subjot – Created by Chris and Becky Carella and launched on the 4th of August  – in private beta.

The main element  is that is Chris and Becky believe that social networks can be overwhelming and sometimes we just want to read what we need to, not everything else at the same time.  So they have introduced Subjects in such a format that sets them apart from all other social networks, in my opinion.

Subjects

Instead of following a particular person on Subjot you actually just follow the subject –

A user might have 4 subjects –  music, tech, windsurfing, cricket.

You might like this person and find them knowledgeable  about tech you don’t want to hear about the other subjects, then you would just follow tech.

When you “tweet” here you –  Jot your thought in the subject you have chosen – in 250 words and only the people that follow that subject will see.

I think this is a brilliant idea!  As do many others as in 9 days as closed beta they have 22 thousand users!   I must say both Chris and Becky are working very hard to make this happen, they are always there listening to suggestions and commenting on jots (tweets)  I personally have been there about a week, just cruising every now and then to see how it is going and I have 79  followers already, its very user friendly indeed.

Next we have

Heello  – Launched a few days go by Twitpic founder Noah Everett

I joined Heello a few days ago,  it is very much like the Twitter we knew and loved in the beginning –  I love the design of  Heello much more than I do newtwitter, Heello is more like a back to basics version of Twitter – which coincidentally is why I preferred twitter to other networks in the first place.

Sadly however, I haven’t been able to get my account off the ground yet, and every time I try there seems to be problems with servers, once I thought that I had forgotten my password and tried to request it but nothing happened.  There was nothing to welcome me, or to show me the ropes although it is very simple – to ping (tweet) you type in the “share what you are doing box”  and you can share this to twitter or facebook – to maybe create more interest.  So as yet I have ZERO  followers and ZERO  following nor can I see how to do this as I just get this message.

A lot of users are saying the same thing mentioning crashing and things not working and yet Heello claim that they are getting an astonishing 100,000 new users a day – so even with my maths that makes 400,000 users already!! – well if they are like me, they are users that cannot use!  I will keep trying though, as I do like the look of Heello in its Twitter simplicity.

There has also been a third element hanging in the wings for a while and that is incliq – they claim that incliq is a new revolutionary peer to peer social network.  I reserved my username here month ago but it hasn’t been launched yet.   They say they are still working on it and still taking reservations, so watch this space. http://incliq.com/

For this we will have to wait and see!

I’d like to know what you think of the about new networks, have you tried them, what do you think?

Hope this helps

At last iTunes has a Google+ App for Apple iPhone !

The Google+ app has arrived for iPhone!

Since the Android app was launched for Google plus, we Apple users on Google+ have been patiently waiting (for a couple of weeks!) for an iTunes application, although to be fair it was pretty good using Safari.

As far as I know Apple has had it for over a week for approval. Finally it is available for 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4 – Nothing for the iPod Touch, or the iPad available yet!

I couldn’t actually find it via the App Store from the iPhone yet  (it is appearing now under realease date) however

Download Google+ for iPhone here using itunes   http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google/id447119634

This is a free application and it will be interesting to see, what it will creep up to in the free application charts and how long it will take.

Be aware, as I did find another application created by someone else that was 69p

Message recieved on – Google+ via iTunes from +Punit Soni

We discovered an issue with the version of the iPhone Google+ App that was on the App Store. When we launched, the App Store started serving a previous test version of the App which didn’t have the stability and fixes that the latest version had. It started serving the correct version a little later. If you downloaded within the first 1 hour 40 mins, you may have downloaded the older test version. To check:
– Click on the gear icon on the top left of your App’s homescreen and look right above the Help button, the version number of the App should be: 1.0.1.1809- If that is not the version number, then please uninstall and reinstall by clicking on the link below:

Gotta dash and try it out – happy plussing or circling 🙂

Facebook Scam – Google+ Get Invite

Surprise, Surprise –  there appears to be a few fake Google plus invite pages flying around facebook at the moment offering immediate access to Google+ who’s social network is currently running in beta with a limited amount of people.  I say that but a report from Mashable says that  there are now more than 10 million google+ users.

Every now and then Google opens up the network for a little while so that you can send out invites and people can accept, but its not for long and if you miss it you have to wait for the next one, when two come a long at once, oh no – that’s buses sorry.

This  facebook page hasn’t been around for very long but already it has 30k likes – I read some of the posts on there and one person said, Oh no this is a scam, can I still have a google+ invite though ?

There are hundred of comments giving out email addresses (nice) for anyone to see, I didn’t “like” the page but I could still see everyone’s email address and their full names – all I need now is your credit card details please?   A nice place for a hacker or scammer to get lots of information for further scams.  The website link on the Google+ Get Invite page just brings you back to the page, and there is no further information on there at all, apart from users email addresses.

By liking this page you have to allow many different permissions and one of them is where you allow the scammers to spam this to all of your followers.  Access my data at any time, love it!

If you are ever adding applications to Facebook, made sure you read the request for permission link carefully, and understand what it is able to do.

Google Plus – Direct Access

This is also another fake page circulating facebook called  Google Plus – Direct Access – which asks you to send the message out to 50 people asking them to join the page before you can join.

Once again, if in doubt, don’t click.

If you have clicked this remove your message, remove the link from your feed, tell people its a scam and remove the application (privacy settings) as it can send out messages at anytime to anyone from your account.

The only safe way to join Google+ is to join here – http://www.google.com/+/demo/ or get one of your friends to invite you.

Hope this helps

Google+ Can you change extended Profile ID ?

I don’t know if you are like me but I hate numbers – I go to all lengths to avoid these numbers that they give us for personal links on various websites. So I’ve been trying to find out how to change the long number (its 21 digits!) on the Google+ Profile ID to my Google mail name.  which I thought was an option, but it has disappeared.

The short answer  is that officially at present you cannot change the extended URL; while Google plus is on “Field Trial”

When its out of trial  you should be able to do this to get your username

At the moment the “Profile URL” section isn’t even there.. so keep an eye out for it.

Here is what Natalie Villalobos – Community Manger for the Google+ project (what a great job!)  said…

Patience is a virtue

HOWEVER!

There are ways……..

1) Here’s how to get your  own name in your google+ link

Today or very recently a third party application  has been launched called gplus.to where you can change your profile to shorter name –

Its not real – its just like a short link but it has gplus in it.  So for  now…..

that will do nicely.

2) Use your google profile link –  and it goes to your Google+

Profile https://profiles.google.com/youremailusername

Hope this helps.
