DrawingSomething Application including Bugs and Fixes

Its been all go recently with Intragram being bought by Facebook and now DrawSomething from OMGPOP being bought by Zynga of Farmville fame for massive amounts of money it seems. Hopefully Zynga will sort out some of the problems that people are experiencing.

Where can I play DrawSomething

If you still don’t know what Drawsomething is (where have you been?) – it is a drawing game similar to Pictionary where you draw a picture and people guess what it is, you can play this with Facebook friends or random people using the iPhone or iPad from iTunes.

You can also play it directly from Facebook or on Google Plus.

The app has a free game and a paid game – the only difference I can see is that you do not get adverts on the paid game.

People are really good at this game, you can see some of the drawings on the DrawSomething Facebook page

iSketch

I played DrawSomething on Facebook first because it reminded me of a browser based game which I was addicted to about 12 years ago called iSketch which is still there after all of these years, I think they should have created an application don’t you.  There is an application called iSketch but this is just a basic painting app. The best game play of DrawSomething is actually on the iPad, I love how you can just Draw something and then put it down for as long as you like.

Drawsomething has bugs

There are however many bugs still within the Drawsomething application.  I’ve had one where the application got confused and showed my drawing with the previous drawings letters, so the letters didn’t fit the drawing. Like this one drawn on the iPhone (which I find difficult so don’t laugh! LOL )

Missing Colours, Bombs and Coins

On the game you can buy coins to buy new colours and bombs which can give you new words or hints.

Users also have other bugs where coins, bombs and colours – colors – are missing. I read these responses and fixes on the getsatisfaction forum, which is for all support for the game – only go there if you are not easily offended. 🙂

Here’s Swiftor’s official response:

They are safe, but your game client is not reading your inventory info from our servers properly. We’re looking into this – but in the meantime, there are a couple of things you can try doing to get them to show up:
1) If you’re on Wifi, and your device supports 3g/4g – try that. There are reported cases of coins/etc not showing up on wifi. (or vice versa)

2) You can try killing the app and restarting it (or restarting your phone).

Again, we’re looking into a final solution for this!

Another response was from a user call SVNDR – DS is DrawSomething. This fix he says is for iPhone 4s and iPad. Many people said this has worked.

1. Kill all backgrounding apps, including DS (double click home button).

2. Re-open DS.

3. Click the little gear in the top right-hand corner.

4. Click on account.

5. Now, scroll to the very bottom of that page a click logout, then confirm the next message that pops up (if one does)

6. You should now be logged out and at the screen to select either Facebook or Email.

7. Now close DS and then kill it in the backgrounding bar like you did in step 1.

8. Wait about 5-10 second then re-open DS.

9. Wait for it to load to the screen to select between Facebook or Email.

10. Click on whatever form of login you would normally use (i use Facebook).

11. Enter your email and password, then continue to login as normal.

12. Now this is what i think truely helps, so make sure you pay attention and DO NOT skip any of the previous, or next steps!!
Once you are logged in, DO NOT touch anythng, instead look in the top left-hand corner off the main screen, you should see a faint loading icon that spins around. Wait until that icon is completely gone until you continue to the next step.

13. Now that the loading icon is gone, DO NOT open or continue playing any games, yet. First, scroll to the very bottom of the main screen and click on the ‘SHOP’ button.

14. If you previously had purchased bombs, you should now see at the bottom that you have your bombs back, this should most likely mean that your colours and coins have returned aswell.

15. If you did not previously have bombs then you should see the top of the screen in the left-hand side that your coins are back.

Many users are also having problems with games not loading, both on the free game and the paid version –  some games are showing waiting for next player.  There are hundreds of complaints about this on the site, and as yet I have not found a solution, although the above might work.  If you have tried this or have a different solution can you please let us know.

Apart from all that it is a great game and very addictive, but as I say you can just play for a few mins and then put it down for however long you want and it will still be at the stage you left it.

Hope this helps

Fix for iPhone Twitter application not showing mentions

Twitter, iPhone and Android app not showing mentions for some users.

I’ve seen people talking about this, one person said they hadn’t had an @ message – mention for 4 days, when pressing the connect tab – button.

So searched twitter to find out how common it was, and I found quiet a few people complaining.

  • No mentions showing up
  • NO @ mentions on twitter
  • I’m not getting replies on twitter
  • My iPhone has gone bonkers
  • No refresh on the twitter application

Apparently twitter know about this and are working on a fix – I hope its quicker than the fix for unfollowing our followers for us

Here is the fix for iPhone iOS5

To get your mentions back you need delete the account that is not working and re-adding it to the application.

To remove your twitter account on the iPhone on iOS5

Go Settings – Twitter

Click the account that is not working – Press Delete Account

Confirm Deletion

Then go back to the first Twitter settings screen and press Add account

Then just type in your user name and password again – and it works – well it did for me.

Android users would be pretty much the same but I don’t have one right now to show you the steps.

Hope this helps

No sim card installed on 4s – not a new problem.

There have been many people complaining about the “No Sim Card installed” message on the apple iPhone 4s.

4S Design Flaw

Today we even saw a post about it on Engadget Some iPhone 4S owners reporting ominous ‘No SIM card installed’ messages suggesting that it could be a design flaw with the new iPhone.  Others are saying its a software problem, or many other reasons for it, the 4s is getting a real bad press now.

No Sim Card installed on mobile phone problem

However, the sad truth of the matter is that this has been going on since the iPhone was born, or at least the 3GS –  If you do Google search on the topic you see nothing but people asking for help or a fix or some way to solve this problem – even videos offering solutions.

This comment from 2007 on a forum discussing the iPhone problem made me laugh, if only they new 4 years later.

In truth, this isn’t even just an iPhone problem – as @niksargent said today – Every phone I’ve had has had this problem from time to time. In fact sonys have been worst. Not just an iphone thing.

Solution?..

Sadly, I don’t know what the solution is… there are many people saying – “Yes that fixed it!” for various different reasons.

The top fixes are.

  • Restart or reboot the iPhone
  • Keep reinserting the Sim card
  • Get a new sim card
The last one seems most popular but of course that is always a hassle and everyone wants a quick fix.  If I find out any more information I will of course edit this post with the results.
Hope this helps

Fix…. My iPhone 3gs won’t restore after iOS5

Did you say this? My iPhone 3gs won’t restore after iOS5

My story…

After patiently waiting for 4 days for the dust to settle before I attempted to download the  iOS 5 Software Update for iPhone, some iPod touch and iPad . I connected up my iPhone and opened iTunes.

I was still apprehensive as so many people have had various problems, like music disappearing, album covers gone, various error messages but then some people said it was all fine and hunky dory.  To be safe I didn’t just rush and download the iOS software update – first I installed the updated iTunes, sync’d and backed up the iPhone and making sure everything was up to date, hoping this would help.

iOS5 downloaded in about 8 mins and installed really quickly, I thought it was too good to be true when it said iTunes needs to do a restore to complete. It went through the restore process only to come up with a message, saying that this unit could not be restored. Gutted – Try again and it says your phone is in recovery mode you must restore this iPhone.

Alert text: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode..."

– then again the message – an error occurred while restoring this phone – it just goes into a loop.   I tried to restore it two more times before I gave up. My iPhone was useless, thanks iTunes.

Recovery mode, I don’t like this picture.

I did a little search on Twitter and Google to see if any others were having the same problem, indeed they were. However, no one could suggest a solution. Most seemed to be taking their unusable mobiles into Apple to see a genius.

ITunes and me have never had a good relationship  (I’m not sure if it is only since I have had windows7) so I knew what to do to get my phone back to normal. If you ever that the cannot restore problem this is what you need to do.

Plug it into another PC or laptop – and do the restore from there.

Then plug it back into your own PC and restore the back up that you already have saved.

Done, iPhone back to normal.

The only problem is this does not give you iOS5 and once you have done this you will be back to the old version.  But, at least your phone works and you have all of your numbers, apps and details back.

Now I am not sure whether to try again and see if it works this time or leave it  until there is a fix or I can get to an apple store to report this as a bug.

Fix below ……

If anyone has the reason that this is happening I would be grateful if you posted the answer on here, or if you found a way around it.

It would also be great to know, who had this problem, and are they using windows 7 – so don’t be shy – let us know.  Maybe we can help each other

Update…..

I have finally found out what was wrong – I had error codes 1603 and 6 – this fix wasn’t on apple, these were….

Things I tried

  • Restarting everything
  • Restarting apple mobile device in services
  • unplugging all usb’s
  • plugging lead in different usb ports
  • making sure everything was allowed in Zone Alarm – Firewall
  • allowing and un-allowing bonjour access to the internet
  • Stopping various things running in taskmanager that I though might affect it.

Finally ……

I just turned off the Zone Alarm (firewall) and restarted the PC

Duh!

Fixed, I now have iOS 5 – and now I’m going to upgrade to an iPhone 4S LOL well not just yet.

Hope this helps

Blank screen on Nokia 6700 Fix

Recently we had a problem with a Nokia 6700 mobile phone, the problem was a blank or black screen with a back light. After searching the internet we could not find out what the problem was – so I decided to share this with you as we found out the solution.

None of the buttons seemed to do anything, I asked some of my Nokia friends who suggested the 3 finger reset which actually you need 4 fingers for, as you also have to turn the phone on.  This solution seemed to make the phone make a noise, sometimes the start up noise and sometimes just a beep but still nothing on the screen, it was just dead.

We suddenly realised that we hadn’t tried to take a call with the phone, so we called it and it rang, we were able to answer the phone and talk on it.  This made us assume that the phone could be still ok but it was actually a screen fault.

So we ordered a screen from ebay  – “NEW LCD SCREEN DISPLAY FOR NOKIA 6700 CLASSIC + Tool” from u2cheerexpress – this screen also came with 4 tools that you need for a total of £5.99 !! Amazing – service and delivery were in fact brilliant.

Then we followed the very detailed how to – instructions here – Nokia 6700 Classic ♥ Screen Repair / Replace / Change a Broken LCD

Fixed !

Youtube is brilliant for things like this, if there is ever anything you need to fix and are not sure exactly how to do it, always check you tube, I’ve used a lot of these instructional video.

Hope this helps
