Blackberry down for 3rd day – USA join the club!

Blackberry users are still suffering with a lack of email, internet and BBM messaging!  Users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East have had to endure these outages for a total of THREE days, some of which was intermittent.  However, the drama just increased furthers as now we are hearing of user in America losing services as well.  Americans on Twitter seem to be in shock that they have no service on their Blackberry even though this has been going on in other parts of the world for two days.

PerezHilton is not pleased as we can see from this tweet.

And Kourtney Kardashian said….

Rim – Research in Motion has issued the following statement regarding the outages.

“The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure,”

“Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible.  We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed.”

Although Blackberry understand that problems can happen, they cannot understand, why it is taking so long to fix, or why they cannot be told how long it is going to be down for.  I assume this is because they just don’t know.

In the meantime this doesn’t look good for RIM who’s shares fell abruptly yesterday – after falling all year.

Hopefully this will be resolved soon, before users get really annoyed and get themselves down to an Apple store for an Apple iPhone 4S.

No, they wouldn’t do that – would they?

Hope this helps.

Blackberry services still down worldwide

Blackberry smartphones in Europe, the Middle East and Africa – EMEA  cannot connect to the internet, send instant messages (BBM) and emails due to a server crash or (serious fault) at RIM who make the Blackberry. It was suggested this was worldwide earlier but now it seems to be just EMEA –  the first problems were reported at 11am today almost 6 hours ago now, and users on twitter are getting very frustrated.

Four hours ago there was an announcement from T-Mobile on their website which states

There is currently an issue with sending and receiving via the BlackBerry Messenger service as well as using BlackBerry internet services. We’re investigating this with the maunufacturer RIM as a matter of priority and hope to resolve the issue soon. We’ll keep you updated regarding the issue over the course of the day.

All other major networks are reporting that RIM are still investigating and offer no time for a fix as yet.

What the tweeters are saying…..

Some are now reporting that they have internet but not all, so maybe it is starting to come back now?

35mins ago on the Blackberry Facebook page – this announcement was made …

Is yours still not working?

People are now starting to say that they have either internet or messaging back on their Blackberrys after 12 hours of silence!

UPDATE – Problems are occurring again – Blackberry users are reporting that it is working intermittently at the moment, some say nothing all day – Tuesday 11/10/11

Hope this helps.

Chit Chat for Facebook Available on Blackberry

Back in December last year we told you about the Facebook Chat Client – Chitchat  which is one of the most widely used Facebook Instant Messaging applications.  Well, now there is a new mobile version of Chit Chat for Facebook which is available on Blackberry smartphones.

This new mobile version is owned and operated by Athena IT Ltd  You can read more about it on their official site – Facebook Chat Blackberry.

The way to chat on the move with greater reliability!

Download, install and then login with your Facebook username and password – easy!

The good thing about this application is that there is no need to log in to facebook at all, Chit Chat will contain all of your Facebook contacts.  You won’t have to zoom and scroll around the Facebook site as your contact list will look, big and clear – like this…

Contacts, or your Buddy List who are online have a green Chit Chat symbol and orange means that they are offline or unavailable.

Its all pretty simple and easy to use, if you’ve used any type of IM then this will need no instructing at all.

At the time of writing this it was available at $1.99 which is little over £1 in UK  which I think you’ll agree is nothing for this great application.  Available from mobihand.com

Review on the site
After using Chit Chat for Windows the last year I noticed it’s out for the Blackberry now so I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m really blown away at the quality of this app. I’ve only used free Chat programs for my phone (Bold 9780 ) before, and there are always quirks and annoyances that you don’t like. With Chit Chat I couldn’t find anything bad. Though it isn’t free, it’s well worth the price.
