Whatsapp 4G VIP Scam fooling users again

I’m sorry to be writing about Whatsapp again so soon and I’m sorry that it’s about yet ANOTHER Whatsapp hoax message but I had to warn you that there is a new scam going around – because I’ve seen it so many times already!   Its similar to the last one Whatsapp 4.0.   This Whatsapp 4G VIP Scam is fooling users into thinking that it is a real update.   Its more like an extention of the phishing scam Whatsapp Version 4.0 where the post action lists the extra features that you can get.

Whatsapp 4G VIP Scam fooling users

The promises on this new VIP scam are as follows

  • Private Messaging, while withholding your number
  • Free WiFi mode
  • Video Calling
  • See who has viewed your profile picture on Whatsapp
  • Free calls

Of course, not everyone can have this – its VIP don’t you know, it’s for special people who invited users only.  So you must invite your friends before you can download.  (ALARM BELLS YET?)

Also as usual with these scams if look carefully at the message – is written in bad English, (worse than mine, even) with capital letters all over the place, there is no way that Whatsapp would advertise like that.

AND it the link is NOT from Whatsapp but from a created URL by the scammers to looks like Whatsapp but of course its FAKE.

I’m not certain what happens after you download it, I did not want to find out and haven’t yet found out from the people I know that shared it – but I would suggest you immediately delete it and change your password – and if you can scan your phone, disinfect your hands and go and sit in the corner for the rest of the day!  🙂

Please never share things like this before you check it out – Always go to the Whatsapp website and check to see if any updates or the store for your phone – never click a link sent via Whatsapp or email before you check it out.

If you are really unsure Whatsapp do have a special help page – Frequently Asked Questions.

I received a strange Whatsapp message. Is it true?

You may have received spam from an unauthorized third party and not WhatsApp.

We work diligently to reduce any spam messages that come through our system. Creating a safe space for users to communicate with one another is a priority. However, just like regular SMS or phone calls, it is possible for other WhatsApp users who have your phone number to contact you. Thus, we want to help you identify and handle these messages.

Unwanted messages from unauthorized third parties come in many forms, such as spam, hoax and phishing messages. All these types of messages are broadly defined as unsolicited messages from unauthorized third parties that try to deceive you and prompt you to act in a certain way.

You may be the target of a deceptive scheme if any of the following describes a message you receive, via WhatsApp or email:

  • The sender claims to be affiliated with WhatsApp.
  • The message content includes instructions to forward the message.
  • The message claims you can avoid punishment, like account suspension, if you forward the message.
  • The message content includes a reward or gift from WhatsApp or another person.

Hope this helps

Not ads on WhatsApp, but sharing data to Facebook – How to opt out.

whatsapp adsIt was announced today from WhatsApp, that Whatsapp will be sharing your personal information with Facebook including your phone number to allow businesses to communicate with users. There are lots of headlines floating around saying that we are going to get ads on Whatsapp. This does not appear to be the case.

In today’s Whatsapp blog, they stated that they haven’t made any changes to their privacy policy in four years.  But now they want to “test ways for people to communicate with businesses” Does this mean adverts – that doesn’t sound like it, not on WhatsApp anyway. They say there will be no spam and no banner ads but stuff that we get via text message all the time, like about deliveries being late or flight being delays. So no WhatsApp ads

We still do not allow third-party banner ads on WhatsApp.

In the future, we will explore ways for you and businesses to communicate with each other using WhatsApp, such as through order, transaction, and appointment information, delivery and shipping notifications, product and service updates, and marketing. For example, you may receive flight status information for upcoming travel, a receipt for something you purchased, or a notification when a delivery will be made. Messages you may receive containing marketing could include an offer for something that might interest you.

We do not want you to have a spammy experience; as with all of your messages, you can manage these communications, and we will honor the choices you make.

They are going to be sharing our information and data with Facebook so that we will get more accurate ads on Facebook.  But again you can opts out of this before signing the agreement or within 30 days after.

They confirm in today’s Whatsapp blog that they now use end to end encryption and that messages are private.  And that they won’t ever share your Whatsapp number with others, such as advertisers. Never ever….. they say.

Nothing you share on WhatsApp, including your messages, photos, and account information, will be shared onto Facebook or any of the Facebook family of apps for others to see. This means, for example, although some information will be shared with Facebook (such as your phone number), that information will not be seen by other people on Facebook.

How to opt out of sharing my Whatsapp data with Facebook

If Facebook doesn’t actually already have all of your info, you might be concerned and want to opt out. Here is how you do that.

Before you agree to the new terms of service and privacy policy

Click read – and then uncheck share my account information at the bottom that says share my WhatsApp account information with Facebook

whatsapppp

information and image from https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/general/26000016

Or if you have already signed it, you can go to  Settings > Account > Share my account info in the app. and uncheck the box there, you only have 30 days in which to do this.

There, no panic : )

whats going on with no mans sky

Whats going on – No Mans Sky

Whats going on - No Mans SkyWhats going on – No Mans Sky was launched on PS4 on Monday 8th August and will be available on PC by Friday the 12th of August.

No Mans Sky was developed by Hello Games a small team of around 15 people who have been working on the game for 4 years.

The game has been out for 2 days on PS4  at the time of writing, and as you would expect already there are shouts of joy, desperation, and disappointment, for various reasons.

It’s actually refreshing to see tweets about a different game other than PokemonGo, whatever they say.

Who are Hello Games

Hello Games are based in Guildford UK (close to me!)  founded in 2008 by four friends, Sean Murray, (founder) Ryan Doyle, David Ream and Grant Duncan.  They had previously worked together for other businesses and wanted to bring the vibrancy and fun back to games themselves. No Mans Sky is not their first game they also created Joe Danger but No Mans Sky is set to be one of the biggest games this year.  It does help that No Man Sky has the backing of Sony.

What is No Mans Sky

No Man Sky is a beautiful science fiction survival and exploration game which is in an infinite procedurally generated universe (Their description).

According to RedBull in May of this year –  Man’s Sky could contain 136,505,906,145,450,681,958,400,000,000 people. Or humanoids. Peopleoids. Aliens.

In No Mans Sky you explore uncharted solar systems, you name and catalogue planets and forms of life that have never been seen before.  You can also find ancient artefacts that might reveal secrets about the universe.  You can also fight creatures or spaceships that you encounter on the way.  And from what I’ve seen, you don’t want to go shooting at people for no reason, as they will find you and track you down.  There is a story line that you follow.  It seems basically a single player sandbox game, and if you don’t like exploring and collecting resources to survive and create better equipment, then you won’t like this game.  It’s a very chilled game unless you upset some pirates.  I’ve not played it yet myself as I am waiting for it to launch on PC but I have been watching various twitch streamers play it and they do seem to be enjoying it very much.

What’s going on – No Mans Sky

So, what’s all this fuss today about No Mans Sky – well yesterday two streamers were playing and realised that they were very close to each other and so decided they would meet up, and they did but sadly they could not see each other.  So maybe they were on different servers or instances.  You can see more about that here on Reddit – I’m about to meet another player    However today live on Twitch they tried again, and no they could not see each other, both players even logged out and in again.

Now some of the gaming community aren’t very happy, they said they were led to believe that it was multiplayer – even though it is listed as single player, Sean Murray has often said things like it will take a long time to meet another player, which means that it is possible, doesn’t it?.  Or maybe that was the aim in the beginning but it didn’t work out.   To buy the game on the premise that you will probably not see another player is pretty crazy, and we are distracting from what a great game this actually is, built by a very small indie team.

So, we don’t know what’s going on – we don’t know if this is a glitch or its never going to be possible, we just don’t know at this stage.   I don’t think Sean has commented to all of the complaints as yet, so I’m pretty confused.  I think a statement would help stop the ranting from new players.  Sean has said repeatedly that it is not a multiplayer game.  But then he was recorded saying that we can’t see what our characters look like but other players can. One streamer did say  that they are fixing this and that its a bug, but I have not read this anywhere.  I will keep searching and update if I find it.

Sean Tweets

Whats going on - No Mans Sky

Then

Whats going on - No Mans Sky

But they didn’t actually find each other………..   well not in the sense of the word that I understand “find” to mean.  – but they knew each other were there partly because they were both streaming but they did not see each other.    In that tweet, Sean does confirm that HelloGames want players to be aware they are in a shared universe, which doesn’t mean that we will see them but we will know they have been there as they have named planets and plants etc.    I’m confused, and so are many others. But unlike some others, that are saying things like “No Man Lies” – “Nomad Sky” and “No Friends Sky” – haha – Personally,  I’m not really bothered, it would have been good to meet up with people but I didn’t expect that it was going to be easy or the aim of the game, besides I am proud that a little games dev company  HelloGames from the UK  have created a game like this and taken the gaming community by storm.  Just about Everyone and his mother are streaming this game right now.

So basically I don’t know Whats going on – No Mans Sky will hopefully reveal all soon.

Mandala

Drawing Mandala, Zentangle or Doodles

pensI recently started learning how to draw  Zentangles, I was just playing around with doodle art and realised that there could be something more I could do, then I saw  Zentangles and Mandalas, which are great fun.  It’s like learning how to draw all over  again with pen, its been so long.

So I’ve been trying to learn the different between Doodles Zentangles and Mandala art.

What are Zentangles

Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created through a very specific Method from an ensemble of simple, structured patterns called tangles on a 3.5-inch (89 mm) square paper tile. Zentangles are not only exquisitely beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create.

Via TanglePatterns   See their website for more information

What is Mandala Art

mandala) is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Indian religions, representing the universe. In common use, “mandala” has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.

Via Wikipedia – see page for more info

What is Doodle Art

Mandala drawings and Zentagles are drawings that need a lot of concentration – A doodle is a drawing that we usually do while we are not concentrating, and its often strange to see what we have created without thinking.

Drawing Mandala, Zentangle or Doodles

Drawing Mandala, Zentangle or Doodles

So this is one of my first Mandala drawings, I’m hoping to get more control so that the lines are stronger and straighter, I’ve not been using any tools so far as I felt that it would distract from the flow and felt it was cheating really but I’ve seen people using protractors and compasses and marking lines out and the results look great –  so I’m going to see if I enjoy drawing that way too.

And this is the finished drawing – I need to get lighting sorted out or scan these in I think

How to turn off Facebook live notifications

Now that Facebook’s live streaming feature is available to everyone, some people aren’t very happy about getting so many notifications.  Well, I have good news for you – you can simply turn off Facebook live notifications.

But first…

How to livestream on Facebook

Or maybe you didn’t even realise that you can livestream using Facebook’s app.  You cannot do it from the desktop yet unless you download OBS and make a few changes to your set up but you can stream directly from your phone.

Tap your status and you will see a list of options there, one is Live Video.  Remember you can change the settings the same as on your normal status updates to public or friends only etc.

Facebook

As I said before I noticed on Twitter that people are getting rather frustrated and fed up with being told that some is “live now” on Facebook.

Turn Off Facebook Live Notifications

Go to your homepage on Facebook – Over on the far right, you see the down arrow.  It looks like an upside down triangle.  Click that and it will show you a drop-down menu.

From here, click Settings.

On the left you will see a list of options – Click Notifications

Now you are in the settings page for all notifications.  At the top, you will see On Facebook – Click Edit

Here you options for all posts on Facebook. You will usually have notifications for everything unless you turn them off.

Look down the list for Live Videos

It says – “Choose if you want to receive notifications when interesting live videos happen”

Click – On – and from the drop down menu, choose All Off

No more annoying Facebook live notifications!

At last ! Create great designs from Canva on your iPhone

At last ! Create great designs from Canva on your iPhone

canva for iphoneCanva was founded in 2012, they launched in Beta in 2013  after getting some funding and quickly became very popular, which is not a surprise because Canva is a very easy to use FREE design tool.  I wrote about Canva on my business blog in 2014 – telling everyone about the Free Design Tool.     So now we have Canva on the web, Canva on the iPad and Canva on the iPhone, I’m so excitred to have Canva on the iPhone – it does need iOS 8.1 as you would expect.

Canva on your iPhone

I’ve been using Canva for over 2 years now and have always wanted to be able to create designs on my phone.  Everytime I put in suggestions to the team they would always say, yes this is in the works, and it always came through so we just had to be patient.   Yes there are a number of different design apps but with Canva you are able to keep all of your designs and uploads of images that you use for your designs on your account, so its quick and simple to make something using your own logo or a template that you have, I don’t find that so easy with other apps.

So what’s different about Canva on your iPhone ?

I thought there might be less on the app that on the web version but so far, there appears to be more!

  • Designed Layouts  – 1oo more created just for the iPhone
  • Add Text
  • Add your own photos
  • Enhance photos like you would on Instagram, that’s new
  • Share directly to another network – Brilliant!
  • Switch seemlessly between devices.

The last one for me, is a big bonus, any app, program, game, chat,  anything that you can switch between devices without anything changing is a bonus, like when Whatsapp Finally went to the PC  – it made me use it again properly.

I am finding it a little fiddly, if I am totally honest, I have the iPhone 5 and it has a small screen but wow – I just created something great in seconds and shared it diInstagram instagram.

The photo wasn’t the greatest, but literally I just took what I saw in my photos and stuck some text on – Strawberry Fields Forever

I am so happy to get this application, thanks Canva and the team!

How can Canva do all this for free?

How do Canva make money you might wonder – well one of the ways if that you can buy stock photo’s, images, frames, and other creations for your design, for very little money.

On the iphone app you can buy Canva credit as in-app purchases from $1.99 to $99.00

And you can now upgrade to Canva for work – well actually for sometime now.

On Canva for work you can have

  • Team branding kits – so that you can save your colours, logos and fonts
  • Layout Creators – so you can customise your own templates
  • Magically resize – so that you can resize your design to fit all networks or do what you want with them.
  • Design and photo folders – so that you can keep all your stuff in folders for your team to find.

All of the above have been things that I’ve suggested and wanted over the years and Canva have cleverly put them into the Work package, which is actually very cheap @ around £10.oo per month per member – Which if you create a lot of designs, is nothing.

Love it try it out Canva iPhone

Permissions, Privacy and Safety – Pokemon Go

Permissions, Privacy and Safety – Pokemon Go

Anyone concerned about what privacy they have or what permissions they allow on their mobile phones seem not to care anymore since downloading Pokemon Go which is a free app on Android and iOS.

If you’ve not heard about it ….. haha – Pokemon Go is an Augmented Reality Game from Nintendo, The Pokémon Co., and developer Niantic Labs.  The aim of the game is to discover and train Pokemon that will appear around you on your phone, in the real world.  To complete this game you will have to travel far and wide during the day and night, and if you can’t do that, there are in-game purchases to help you complete the game, which is where Nintendo will make their money.

So now to privacy…

I’m not just talking about the fact that is a location tracking game – for a kids game, this should ring alarm bells on its own. No, I’m talking about the permissions you have to allow to play the game and the Pokemon Go – Niantic – Privacy Policy, which in one part informs you that they may share your information to other parties.  And that it wants full access to your Google account and or your Facebook account.  Don’t get me wrong, I am as excited as anyone else in the UK to know when Pokemon Go is coming out in the UK.  Its seems these delays have made us all want Pokemon Go all the more. However, I don’t have small children who are using this game on their phones.

Its brilliant that this game is getting our kids outside again – if we can ignore the fact that we have already seen Robbers using the Pokemon Go app to target victims  and seemingly causing other real life dangers.  Also be aware of these things in the game called Lures, which you place at Pokestop to lure out many Pokemon at once, this Lure not only brings Pokemon but it also brings lots of kids,

Also be aware of these things in the game called Lures, which you place at Pokestop to lure out many Pokemon at once, this Lure not only brings Pokemon but it also brings all the kids, you can buy Lures, so you don’t have to be someone that is playing the game, you can download the game for free and literally Lure kids to you.  I don’t want to be a kill joy – I think its a great game, and great for kids, and also for adults but we need to keep up with the dangers, permissions we allow and especially our safety.

Its in all the news that the NSPCC wanted the release delayed – the Dailymail said – Pokemon Go is a gateway for paedophiles Claims NSPCC – aparently the NSPCC are in contact with Niantic.

So back to permissions – the permissions are very similar to those from a similar game called Ingress, which isn’t at all strange as this was also created by Niantic – and has been around for 2 years, and we’ve not seen any problems with however its not really kids.

Permissions, Privacy and Safety – Pokemon Go

So to start off with, once you have downloaded your game in order for it to play you need to.

Let it look at your contacts

Let it know your location

Modify and delete contents of your storage

Prevent the phone from sleeping !

UPDATE

After many complaints Niantic realised that full access to your Google account wasn’t needed.  So that seems to have been changed to access to basic account information.

You can check yours here – it should have changed froand also see what else has full access to your Google account too.

I’m hoping that there will be many updates over the next few days.

And then we have the PokemonGo privacy policy which states that it collects information about you or your child – such as user name and messages sent to other users

Just make sure you read these permissions, take them in, look at what your kids are doing on the app, be safe.

Stop Sharing Hoax Post on Facebook About Retaining Control

Yet again people are sharing a hoax post on Facebook about retaining control over things that you share on Facebook – we see these spam posts time and time again and still people are sharing. And frankly its just annoying.

Facebook Hoax About Retaining Control

This one isn’t any different that the ones before.

Basically it says Deadline tomorrow – well its already been floating around for at least a week so that deadline has passed if you are still sharing this Facebook Spam.

Here is the text from the offending Facebook Post.

Everything you’ve ever posted becomes public from tomorrow. Even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry. Channel 13 News talked about the change in Facebook’s privacy policy.  I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future.

With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law (UCC 1-308- 1 1 308-103 and the Rome Statute).

NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this. If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tactically allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste to be on the safe side.

facebook hoax About Retaining Control

Its just not true, it is a hoax.  Who Channel 13 news are I have no idea. I’d rather not even search it for fear of catching some virus so I will leave it at that.

We have seen so many types of this hoax and other scam on Facebook its just crazy that people are still fooled into sharing these posts.

Switch to Pink Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg isn’t giving you money

Facebook Gold Membership – also still doing the rounds

Oakley Sunglasses

And it goes on and on……. This is just another Facebook hoax and does nothing but amuse the poster and confirm that Facebook users do not listen.

How do we know its not true ?

For a start – do you really think a post on your wall is going to stop Facebook doing anything.  You can still protect your posts as you have always done.

Facebook even posted a statement saying this was not true

You’re In Control

You may have seen a post telling you to copy and paste a notice to retain control over things you share on Facebook. Don’t believe it. Our terms say clearly: You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it’s shared through your privacy and application settings. That’s how it works, and this hasn’t changed.
You can visit Privacy Basics to find out more about who sees what you share on Facebookand other topics.
You can also read the Data Policy to find out what information we collect and how it is used and shared. We want you to be informed and in control of your experience on Facebook.
So please stop this madness – do not share this rubbish.
Thanks
Logitech are Having a Mouse Party

Logitech are Having a Mouse Party

I’m a huge fan of all things Logitech  so I often get emails from them with money off voucher codes, this time, when I clicked through (sucker) I found I have 25% off and the headline –  Logitech are having a mouse party, of course I had to find out more.  It wasn’t house party with a typo..

Logitech are Having a Mouse Party

Logitech are having a mouse party

So what was it all about .. well  – Logitech have got a new Wireless Mouse the M238 and its so cute and colourful – I love the web page for it too.  You can scroll through 9 different quirky and colourful designs to see how they look.  They’ve got all these weird and wonderful hands holding the mouse to show that you can have whatever design to make your personality shine, I like it! Check out The Party Selection

Logitech are having a mouse party

Being a hard computer user, working all day on the PC and playing all night either blogging, surfing or gaming I have never got on with a wireless mouse and keyboard  as they were always running out of batteries – so for years now I’ve not bothered.

However, the M238 Wireless mouse is fitted with an AA battery that they say will last a year with normal use, still even it if was 6 months that would be a great improvement, but I’m assuming then that you can’t replace this battery? I’ve asked on Twitter, let’s see if they reply in time 🙂 I’m guessing it can be replaced as the hardware has a 2-year warranty.  So @logitech replied 2 hours later – with this information – yes it can be replaced – Battery life and replacement

Logitech are having a mouse party

Oh yes, and this mouse is really small too, so great for taking around to meetings and stuff when you are on the go with your laptop or tablet –  I do love the small versions of mice – but at the moment I have a Logitech gaming mouse G302, which is pretty large not the hardcore one with thousands of buttons, because they are too big for my hands.

It’s not a bad price either £19.90 with my 25% discount – I am tempted! 🙂

Nice one Logitech ! Love the mouse party angle!

landmark game launched

Landmark Game Launched – EverQuest Next Fans Give Bad Reviews

1581Yes, the time is finally here – Landmark Game has been launched – Its been a whirlwind of a time over the last two years being involved in the Landmark beta.  It was a big shock to everyone when Daybreak Games announced that EverQuest Next would be cancelled and they would now be concentrating and launching Landmark within a few months!  Landmark has now launched, EverQuest Next fans are not happy in the slightest.

What is this Landmark game ?

Landmark is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game)  which started life as a development tool in 2013 for Everquest Next by Sony Online Entertainment. Now a standalone game by Daybreak games.

Features involve

  • Building Tools – to create your worlds
  • Harvesting – collect materials for your buildings
  • Recipes – earn and collect recipes for props and npcs
  • Combat – fight monsters in caves or add them to your build site
  • Story Mode – Build a complete story for your friends to take part in.

For more information see the Landmark website The game is currently $9.99.  Although if you bought into the game before, you do not have to pay again, it seems some are confused about that.

As I said before it has been a wild time playing Landmark in beta, I’ve loved it, hated it, screamed at it, been addicted by it, and almost thrown my PC out of the window but that’s what a beta is some people still don’t get that, that’s why were are playing, to send over bug reports to help develop the game.

One of the great things about Landmark is the close community of players, learning and sharing from each other.  Its good to get involved with other players, thats what an MMO is all about.  You can find people streaming Landmark on Twitch most days and many people on Twitter.   Its a just a real shame that DayBreak don’t seem to have a proper social media or community management strategy, Daybreak could have really made use of Landmark advocates for their game by getting involved in the community more – a quick post here and there just doesn’t cut it, someone needs to be involved full time.

Players get together and create video stories using their own creations/builds during beta – like this one by Jinkys

Brief History of Landmark

How did Landmark go from being a development tool for EQN to its own game – Long time player Eleven06 explains:-

Landmark started out in 2013 as a building tool for EQN. When the developers at SOE saw how fun it was to use they decided to make Landmark into a standalone game. They advertised Landmark as a social building game with the added benefit that players would be able to help build the world of Norath in EQN. As the development process went on, SOE removed the Everquest moniker from Landmark as it was proving to be a capable tool for more than just EQN. People were still helping build EQN but things like sci-fi and modern materials were being brought into the game. Then SOE became Daybreak. After a significant downsizing and consolidation, production on Landmark halted in favor of EQN.

Then all of a sudden this happened….

EverQuest Next Cancelled

It was a sad day for EverQuest players and I’m sure the team when it was announced by Russell Shanks the President of Daybreak Games that Daybreak were discontinuing the development of EverQuest Next.

For the past 20 years EverQuest has been a labor of love. What started as a deep passion of ours, as game creators, grew into a much larger passion shared by you, millions of players and Daybreakers alike. Watching EverQuest’s ability to entertain and bring people together has inspired and humbled us. It’s shaped our culture and has emboldened us to take aggressive risks with our game ideas and products. When we decided to create the next chapter in the EverQuest journey, we didn’t aim low. We set out to make something revolutionary.

For those familiar with the internals of game development, you know that cancellations are a reality we must face from time to time. Inherent to the creative process are dreaming big, pushing hard and being brutally honest with where you land. In the case of EverQuest Next, we accomplished incredible feats that astonished industry insiders. Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun. We know you have high standards when it comes to Norrath and we do too. In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Nextwould not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath.

The future of the EverQuest franchise as a whole is important to us here at Daybreak.EverQuest in all its forms is near and dear to our hearts. EverQuest and EverQuest II are going strong. Rest assured that our passion to grow the world of EverQuest remains undiminished.

Landmark Game Launched

So, Landmark Game has been launched, its just been opened to the public for just two days and the reviews have already started pouring in, but not really how anyone expected.

The fact that EverQuest Next was cancelled and Landmark Launched obviously disappointed and angered many many Everquest players, and they have been using this frustration to voice their anger and distaste on the steam reviews of Landmark game – giving the game many negative reviews.  With almost 2000 reviews puts Landmark as an Overall Mixed review.  Which, we as Landmark players understand they need to vent, but on reviews of the actual game is not the right place

The “game” itself its a paper thin building, sand box game that is not worth £6.99 or your local equivelent. There are 1,000’s of games out there doing it better for the same price.

Poorly optimized vaporware. DO NOT BUY
Horribly optimized, floaty combat, lacks actual content, no mod support.

A lot of these negative reviews are because the cancellation of another game. All I can tell you is it’s $10. If you don’t like it, Steam offers a refund period.

As you read these reviews, please look and see how many hours played the reviewer has. This is not a game you can “beat” in a couple hours. There is so much you can do in this game, it is probably the closest to never-ending you can get.

The game is 90% user generated content. It just launched, and already there are some great builds and adventures people have made.

If you put the effort in to learn the tools, and all the things you can do, you can make, and play, almost anything you can think of.

As a long standing member of this game’s community, both for and against decisions made by Daybreak games, it honestly sickens me that people have nothing better to do than set out to try and make a game fail.

Read all the reviews, realize that a bunch are full of BS, and are just blatantly ignorant, or full of lies. There are too many people hurt that Daybreak shut down development of Everquest Next.

Is this game exactly what was promised at the start? No. Not many games that go through a public development process are.

It’s just $10. Try the game. Make your own decision

I wonder which reviews we should take notice of…

I’m not going to lie there are still some buggy aspects of the game, some appear to be different to each person – sometimes its a simple as a quick relog to sort it out. Remember also that there ARE sometimes are teething problems when a game is launched; like with Overwatch, many bugs there with people not being able to sign in etc.      I personally do wonder if the Landmark launch was rushed,  or that they thought they would see how it would cope with more players, however, it has been confirmed there will be a patch soon to fix bugs, I would suggest you stick with it, as it really can be a fun game.

If you have any problems playing Landmark –  check out the forums – Daybreak games forums   – watch some Twitch streams and ask the players for help – find them on Twitter #landmarkgame –  players will ALWAYS be glad to help out and if you played the game in beta you might need to download again – by logging into the website and hitting download. Download Landmark

For new Landmark players it would be greatly beneficial to watch some tutorial videos – you will need to make sure you are watching videos from March 2016 onward though as all of the tools have changed over the years.  Try these Landmark tutorial videos by Eleven06  Basic Landmark Tutorials for New Users

Why not check out the game yourself, do not read the reviews as it gives totally the wrong impression, form your own impression – its extremely cheap for a game of this size – and I think worth the chance to check out at around £7.00.  And as that review said Steam offers a refund policy …

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it.

It doesn’t matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. If you fall outside of the refund rules, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.
