Shazam®, the world’s leading mobile discovery provider, according to reports, has the world’s biggest mobile music application.
Shazam music recognition already has millions of users over various types of platforms, now also available with added extra’s on the iPad. As its my most used application, (apart from twitter apps) I wanted to rave about it to you.
Today I saw that Shazam will be launching Shazam Encore for Android users to offer a premium service model in addition to the free service with limited options in discovering music on mobile phones. Antonio Wells
I have the application on iPhone and I use it all of the time!
Just in case you don’t know what it is, let me explain in real words…
v You are sitting watching a film, you love the theme tune or a track that is played during the film, so you think you will wait until the credits to see what it is so that you can buy it. The credits don’t show it …… Fail.
v You are in the car you hear a track on the radio, you know it but you cannot remember what its called and its really bugging you. You wait until the end of the song, the DJ doesn’t say what it was …. Fail.
v You are at a pub/gig/bar a track is playing, you try to remember some of the words so that you can look it up on the internet later, you don’t remember the words ……. Fail.
That was me all the time, I have a terrible memory for names of bands and or tracks, which proves even more difficult.
This is where Shazam music recognition comes in, you hear a track you want – open the application, press tag now, and Shazam immediately brings up an album cover with the Artist and Track names, how clever is that? Brilliant, I love it.
When it comes up with the track, you then have a number of options:· iTunes – to buy the track instantly · Twitter · Facebook · send postcard (email) · Send Tags as a Tweet to followers; to your Facebook mini-feed or even as a postcard to friends so they can add the Tag to their own collection in Shazam.
· Location Map
· Track review
· YouTube – see a video of the track instantly
And all this is on the free version!!
With the premium version you are not limited the amount of tracks you can tag in a month, so I had to move over to the premium (I didn’t get the free version early when you guys had unlimited).
Shazam Encore exclusive features include:
· Improved speed performance
· Music recommendations
· Find what’s hot and popular
· Search music
· Drive and Tag
· Track the music journey
· Learn more about the music
· Personalise Tags
· Store pending Tags: even when you don’t have a data connection, you can still capture the music moment. The pending Tag can be sent later when you’re back in Wi-Fi or data coverage.

The only thing missing is Lyrics, I’d love that, I’m always looking up lyrics but we cannot get this on Shazam in the UK and yet are apparently are available in the US!
Come on Shazam! Make it even more perfect for me, with Lyrics.
What do you use Shazam on and in what way?
What is all this community service, supervision, and tagging they are handing out in the courts instead of proper sentences? It doesn’t work! Can’t they see that, are they totally blind!
I’d like to quote a few but maybe that’s not a great thing to do, but you’ve all seen these ridiculous sentences in the news.
Tagging is a joke
I know a lot of it has to with age, but even as a mother I have no sympathy for this, the old saying should stick, “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime”. If they are old enough to go out committing crimes then I am sorry, they are old enough to get the full sentence.
The police work hard to get evidence to get these criminals to court and what does the court do? Slap them on the wrist. Don’t do it again naughty boy/girl. What a waste of time for the police, and it’s no wonder police cannot find any witnesses, because people know that the offender will be back on the streets the next day and probably come after them next?
These pathetic sentences that are given out now, when certain types of crime are being committed by our teenagers are useless. Guess what, they do it again and again and again, whilst on bail, probation, tagged, whatever. Then what, oh no! They get more community service. I bet they are so upset. Ha! They have won again!
While I imagine that’s pretty annoying for the criminal (a bit like an itch you can’t reach) if they get community service, (or have to report to a probation officer).
I’m sure they probably do as little work as possible if they even turn up at all. What do they care, if they don’t turn up they will possibly get fined some piddly amount and not have to do it any more.
I wonder why they think they can get away with committing so many crimes, maybe it’s because they are getting away with it!
Courts/Government need to wake up to the real world. And make a stand against these criminals now, before this gets any worse. I’m sure they would if they had to live with them.
Two very bizarre sites have appeared on the internet in the last year. which are both very unsettling; two new ways to get lucky on the internet. They are poorly labelled as Social networking sites or chat forums, which gives Social networking a whole new meaning.
Someone once said that “The internet is for porn” I feel that these sites are worse than your standard porn sites, they degrade the internet and disgraces us as users. We are worth more than this.
Our own personal privacy obviously isn’t worth anything if this leading networking site is anything to go by – See here.
Is this the future of the internet? We moan about censorship but so much is unaccounted for.

First up is Chatroulette.
You log on with your webcam and you see visions of strangers on your screen and of course they see you. Then you hit next until you find someone you want to share this experience with. (this is called nexting) As long as you don’t mind nexting through the dirty old men fondling themselves, then this site might be for you. I’d go in with a very open mind if you were to try it. It doesn’t sound like fun to me. Yet it seems that millions of people use it. Maybe people do want the internet to be porn?
I can see how this site could appear to be fun. There are some clips on YouTube that people find hilarious. Yet, however much I love to meet new people online and to learn about different worlds and cultures I wouldn’t choose to sign up for it for even for research purposes, and I am far from prudish. My friend tried it and described her experience as “lots of old men’s penises flapping about on the screen” which was enough to put me off!
Chatroulette is crude and rude, I don’t believe it was intended this way but it sure has got a lot of interest because of how it has turned out. Purely because people have just got out of control, they feel they don’t have to be accountable for their actions because they are behind a screen!
Ah..The statistics – Chatroulette users 71% men, 15% women and 14% perverts, while 83% were fairly young and 17% older people per a trial done by New York film-maker Casey Neistat. http://www.guardian.co.uk/
The Chatroulette site actually states that it, “does not tolerate broadcasting obscene, offending, pornographic material” – oh really? Have they been on their own website at all? What exactly are they saying constitutes pornographic material, I wonder?
There is a report button, but seriously, if you are visiting the site you should know what to expect.
And what about Game crush? Virtual prostitution, isn’t it? Isn’t prostitution illegal in most places in real life? I know this isn’t real-life but you are selling yourself right? It’s something else that is demeaning.
Girls paid $30 dollars an hour to “play” with guys; guys that have to “pay” for girls, as they don’t have any real girls to play with. What sort of guys are they? This is going to attract the kids and the perverts the same as Chatroulette does. You are supposed to be over 18 to play this but kids will get around that, exactly how they got around the over 13 limit on Facebook.
Gamecrush say this about monitoring games which makes you feel safe, NOT. GameCrush does not monitor, moderate or otherwise control the interaction between its users. GameCrush encourages Players and PlayDates to respect one another while having fun. Encourages!
And if you think you’ll get a playdate that looks like this
Think again – I’d say more like this……..
These so called social networking sites, these games, are perhaps acceptable, if you are over 18, know what to expect and also want a little harmless fun. Although like chicken pox spots these things will start popping up all over the place, for people to scratch, its just the beginning.
Just as we speak, I see a new one has popped up on Facebook!!
Chatville – they say its “Chatroulette without cock” not my words, but we’ll see……. the only difference is people know who you are as your profile comes up. I wonder how many new anonymous accounts this will encourage, good numbers for Facebook huh?
Do you think I am overeacting? Am I being a kill joy?
How would you feel if your daughter was on these sites, nexting people or getting paid to “play” with guys? I suppose in all of this, that is what worries me, that these places are dangerous for our children. In my opinion they are creepy and gross and even though I’m not a psychic I can see the future headlines now.
Silly Games, same as in real life, don’t play them, – unless its an Xbox game 🙂
- know where they work
- know who their friends are
- maybe even get introduced online with their friends
- don’t give out your full address
- talk openly with them on open channels not just privately in an email or chat
- what do other friends say about them?
- Be a detective, check them out on Google, yes you heard me. Its not stalking (well it is a bit).
