Despite the controversies around Tik Tok the app is still taking the digital world by storm, and many brands are signing up for the platform, and people are asking me how to use TikTok so I thought it might be helpful to write a How to TikTok with some Beginner Tik Tok Tips and Tricks.

What is TikTok

Tik Tok was launched in China in 2016 where is was previously known as Doyyin owned by ByteDance who bought out Musical.ly in 2018 and rebranded as TikTok. TikTok is a video sharing social network and one of the fastest-growing social network in the world.  The videos are mostly of users lip-synching to songs and clips, but with more users joining there seems to be more variety.

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video. Our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy.

TikTok has global offices including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul, and Tokyo.

Most of the users on Tik Tok are Gen Z’s but if you are using the platform you will find many ages ranges now. Us oldies are getting involved.  The minimum legal age for TikTok (similar to the age limit for most social networks) is 13. However, I suggest as a parent you look at some of the mature content videos before deciding and also have the don’t talk to strangers chat with your child. Even TikTik advises parents to oversee teen’s use of the internet which includes their own app. And to make sure that all of the privacy settings are on.  I will do a separate blog about this next week.

The latest stats show that TikTok has over 500 million users but this dates back to July 2018, Hootsuite and we are social say this figure was closer to 800 million at the start of the year.

And by now during Covid19 its grown exponentially as of April this year Tik Tok had been downloaded two billion times and Tik Tok reported a 25% increase in views.
