Bebo Bounces Back again, how very exciting that we are going to see this site again. Bebo was very popular in the UK.
The social networking site, Bebo was launched in 2005 by husband and wife team Michael and Xochi Birch. Bebo stood or stands for Blog Early, Blog Often. You would post on your profile blogs, images, music, and videos to share with others. And also engage with other users. Friends Reunited lost most of its users to Bebo and then Facebook. By 2007 Bebo had over 45 million members, which made it at that time the 6th most popular social media network.
Since then Bebo has had an amazing story.
Bebo – The long story…
In March 2008 they sold Bebo to AOL for $850! By 2010 AOL had ruined it and ran it into the ground, maybe their fault maybe not. AOL wanted to either sell it or just shut it down. They sold it to Criterion Capital Partners who had various wins and fails with it, mostly fails.
and in 2013 Micheal and Xochi bought it back for $1 million.
Things happened from 2013 to 2015 and eventually New Bebo – Bebo Blab was launched as more of a messenger app and some people were able to get back their old photos and blog posts. However after 2 years this shutdown.
In 2017 Bebo became a streaming software similar to OBS – which was closed down a year later so they could create more esports platform. And in 2019 Twitch bought Bebo for $25 Million after outbidding Discord.
Bebo – The short story…
Michael and Xochi Birch sold Bebo for $850m, bought it back for $1m, sold it again for $25m but retained the brand rights! Genius!
Bebo Bounces Back again, again again…
Bebo has announced its return in February 2021 – currently, the website just says that Bebo is going to be a brand new social network.
I’ve already seen people asking if they can get their old Bebo accounts back or their old Bebo photos back but sorry you will not be able to have your old accounts or get any of your old information back. The boat sailed a few years back. This Bebo is going to be completely different and new.
Bebo is currently in Beta, and as yet I do not have a beta key. If anyone has any please do let me know.
As Bebo Bounces Back again the focus this time is going to have the focus of Live Social Networking. You will be able to comment on profiles and have real-time interactions between friends. Michael Birch says it’s a fun project and it’s going to be interesting to see where this goes. I think so too!
And Sorry Mr. Trump but you are banned before it’s even launched.
I am so excited about this! Watch this space!
