Tips For Using The Fun New Social Media Chat App Peach

Chat App PeachEveryone has been talking about the fun new social media chat app Peach this weekend.  So of course I had to go and see what all the fuss was about.

I was surprised with what I found: It’s pink, it’s peachy, it’s cute and you guys love it.

What is the Chat App Peach

Peach was created by Dom Hofmann the creator of Vine, and launched on iOS on the 8th of January this year – so we know why the huge buzz now.

Peach is different that your standard chat apps because of its funky fun features.  You can just text as you would normally and you can @ people so that they get a notification as you would on Twitter.

I’d like to say what the Peach chat app is the same as or similar too but although it has similarities to many things it’s different  – it’s similar to Whatsapp maybe – but has some features of Telegram – or Facebook or maybe Twitter, no I can’t put my finger on it, you’ll just have to try it.

Just download the app on your phone, add your details, profile picture etc, and get going.

How to add people on the chat app Peach

Clearly Peach is better with friends, there isn’t a separate timeline to watch – you have to “Assemble your Squad”.  You add people you know by their phone number or username.  Most people I know are using their Twitter user names so that they are easy to find, I generally use @michelledh or @techieminx everywhere depending on the network.  People have to friend you back to be connected.

Many Brands and Celebrities are on Peach already so it is easy to find people to follow if you don’t just want people you know from your friends list.

You can just text as you would normally and you can @ people so that they get a notification as you would on Twitter.  You can share pictures, photos and video links as you would normally but there are some usual features on Peach that make it much more fun that just that.

Peach Features

Looping photos – if you take a photo with the app and click on the loops it takes like a very short gif

Lightbulb ideas – you can click on the lightbulb with ideas on what to post – different things are here every day.

  • One tradition worth passing on

Actions – You can wave at someone – send them cake – kiss them – hiss at them – just with a click of a button.

Peach Magic Words

Magic words give you fun and funky things to post – just start typing the word and click the eht bubble that appears

I must admit I have spend a lot of time playing with this app to today – just to test it out you understand, and I’ve had great fun – I’m not sure its something I would use everyday but already I can see brands having fun with it especially those aimed at teens.  Not saying it’s just for teens at the moment but we will see.

Enhance Your Twitter Presence With Twitter Conversational Ads

This week Twitter introduced conversational ads so that advertisers can drive more earned media and create more brand influence.  It takes the standard promoted tweets that little bit further.

It seems there could be many changes at Twitter over the following months, which much controversy about the new Twitter10k where Twitter are talking about changing the 140 character limit to 10,000 – it sounds totally crazy that we would see all of those words in our feeds, so we believe that this will just be like Twitlonger, where you have to click a link to see the rest of the tweet, we’ve always found these pretty annoying but at least it won’t change what we see in our timeline, anyway – that’s another story.

Twitter10k

What are Twitter Conversational Ads

The new ads from Twitter contain a call to action button with customisable hashtags to encourage conversation and engagement on the ads.   The call to action button opens a brand message when clicked and the user can then add their own message to the tweet and share it with their followers

The user then gets a tweet from the brand from having engaged with the tweet.  This is turn creates a new tweet which then appears in the users followers timelines with the original photo or video.  So the brand gets extra earned media at no extra cost, as long as people do engage with the original tweet.

Twitter say that conversational ads are exclusive to Twitter and hopefully Twitter have made a big move here by increasing our engagement with our followers, friends or consumers, which we all know by now is great for RIO and brand awareness.

So it seems  you really can enhance your Twitter presence with Twitter conversational ads.

Fans love to interact with brands on social media and sadly some of the time, they do not get a response. In fact according to a report by Sprout Social – 7 in 8 messages to Brands are Ignored on Social Media.  With the correct team, the correct tools and the right Social Media Manager this should not be happening.      With Twitter conversational ads users that interact will get a response – even though this response initial response will be automatic,  We do hope Brands follow it  up with some human interaction.  However, it will be interesting to see how fans respond to these ads as we haven’t seen much excitement from Twitter Polls and they are free, yet although they give the consumer a way to be heard, there is no interaction.

It’ll be exciting to see how it works.

Conversational ads are currently in beta and available for select marketers and advertisers.

How to Blog with Medium

There are many ways you can set up a blog, but first we are going to talk about how to blog with Medium.  Medium was co-founded by Ev Williams of Twitter fame and launched in Beta in August 2012 and has turned out to be very popular with a wide range of different writers.

What is Medium

There has been some contention over the years as what Medium actually is because it’s very different from anything we have used before.  It’s not really a magazine, or a discovery site like Scredible its not even a media site or a blog website like WordPress but it is a blogging platform of sorts.  In a very far-fetched way, I might liken it to Tumblr, with the same sort of themes but Tumblr as a microblogging platform has mostly gone visual now, whereas Medium is for words, you can add some images but it’s mainly for reading and writing.  For bloggers, writers, journalists or anyone that wants to use it to tell their story, or have something useful to share.  Medium, however, encourages quality over quantity with their algorithm so the best posts will be seen first as chosen by editors picks.    You can upvote posts like you do in Reddit, similar to likes in Facebook I guess and these posts appear amongst the most popular blogs among readers.

Medium is different to a blogging platform such as WordPress because there are no sidebars, plug-ins or widgets, there is no branding so nothing to customise.   Medium software is a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get WYSIWYG user interface which has all the formatting you need to make your posts look wonderful but not too much that is distracts you from writing.

You don’t need lots of friends or followers to get started with Medium, everyone is in the same boat, writing with each other.  You have no commitment to post every day, every week or every year even, you can write when you feel like it, without fear that your posts will not be seen if you don’t keep posting to keep your website alive.  This is why we thought you could be very interested to find out how to blog with Medium.

How to Blog with Medium

Right lets get started – Sign up to Medium using either your Twitter account, Facebook account, Google Account or an email address.  Note: if you sign up with Twitter or Facebook your followers and friends will be imported if they are using Medium so already you will have a network or friends.  I signed up with Twitter and from my 15k followers  2k are already on Medium.  Also your image and bio will be taken from Twitter but you can edit these by clicking your profile picture and clicking edit.

Once you have signed up you will see at the top – HOME TOP STORIES BOOKMARKS where you can read other blogs and on the right hand side is Search and Write a Story.   To start a blog posts click on Start a Story, this takes you straight into the editor.

Click Title – to add the title of your article

To start writing your blog click Tell your Story.

Formatting on Medium

When you highlight a word or a selection of words you get a pop-up selection where you can

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Link
  • Create an H1 headline
  • Create an H” headline
  • Quotes

or write a private note

Adding Images

Click the at the side of the editing page

Here you will see a pop up which enables you to

  • add an image
  • add a video
  • add an embed
  • or add a new part – which means line breaks.

You also have some Keyboard shortcuts.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl + Alt + 1 Bigger headline
Ctrl + Alt + 2 Smaller headline Ctrl + B Bold
Ctrl + Alt + 5 QuoteTwo styles of quotes Ctrl + I Italic
* Space Bulleted list Ctrl + K Turn into a linkWorks for text and images
1 . Space Ordered list

When you are happy with your content you can click Publish in the top right hand corner.  Don’t forget to add your tags as this is how you will be found on Medium

If you realise you’ve made a mistake then you can edit – by clicking the edit button in the top right hand corner of the post.

Blogging on Medium is really as simple as that!

You can also reblog your own posts to Medium as a whole or as a reblog (as per wordress) where only part of your content is shown with a link to the rest on your website – I created this one just to test out how it works for the purposes of this post, it looks pretty nice, although I didn’t add any images.  Make money with your influence

There is a lot more to Medium than I have posted so far – this post was really just to show you How to blog on Medium and as you can see its really simple and easy to do.

Please share your Medium links here with me – so that we new users can get to see how the professionals do it.

Thanks for reading.

Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg to build own AI

Mark Zuckerberg to build own AIThere has been a lot of predictions recently about how 2016 is going to be huge for AI (Artifical Intelligence) and VR (Virtual Reality) So the announcement that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is going to build his own AI (Similar to Jarvis in Iron Man) as his own personal challenge this year shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Mark announced on his Facebook profile page that every year he sets himself a challenge and every challenge has a theme, this year’s challenge is invention.  And that is to build himself a simple AI to run his home and help him with his work.  Slightly different from a previous year’s challenge which was to read 2 books a month or one that was to meet a new person everyday.

Mark said that his A.I is going to be like Jarvis in Iron Man.  Jarvis stands for Just A Rather Very Intelligent System and is a highly advancedcomputerised A.I which was developed by Tony Stark (Marvel) to control everything in Tony’s house, which is basically what Mark said he wants.

I’m going to start by exploring what technology is already out there. Then I’ll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home — music, lights, temperature and so on. I’ll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell. I’ll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max’s room that I need to check on when I’m not with her. On the work side, it’ll help me visualize data in VR to help me build better services and lead my organizations more effectively.

Artificial Intelligence to take over the world

Having only just watched the movie Ex Machina about a coder testing out an android with artificial intelligence  and also the series Humans which explores the themes of artificial intelligence and robots and how A.I will transform the way we live,  I found this announcement doubly amusing and fascinating.

Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement did make me think about the ongoing debate about artificial intelligence will eventually take over the world.

Many people, let us call them Tech alarmists have been reported expressing their concern that this technology can threaten mankind.   Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking , Steve Wozniak   and even Bill Gates have all made statements warning of the dangers posed by developing human-like intelligence in computer systems.

Many others are convinced that these systems will put humans out of work, you can understand their fear, but I believe that the combination of human and computer superintelligence can also give us work and help us to solve the worlds problems.

Whatever happens,  this is going to be the biggest game changer ever!  I am excited and can’t wait to see what this year brings, and again I hope that I am still around to see the big changes that are going to happen. We’ve been waiting long enough…

AI around for decades

There has been so many films about AI dominance, where robots take over civilization, in fact these scenarios have been played out for decades, in Sci-Fi books, plays and movies.  And also films about AI that are not so sinister.
