Twitter Photo-Sharing Service – Bad for Twitpic!

No doubt you would have heard by now that Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo is announcing the launch of a photo-sharing service this week, we first heard it was a rumour from Techcrunch however since then confirmed that the image sharing service is going to be announced on Wednesday at All Things D’s D9 California Conference.

I hadn’t seen this report myself until I asked Robert Scoble about it yesterday and he told me where it had been confirmed so it must be true, unless All things D are lying.

Ev said earlier today …

So who knows what the truth is, I guess we will find out soon enough.

Twitter clearly wants to overturn these 3rd parties, and has said so previously.  We also saw this with Tweetdeck being bought by Twitter and now Twitpic and Yfrog will be the ones being pushed out or bought?  What does this mean for other rival 3rd party applications?

This comes at a good time; as users are complaining about Twitpic’s  Terms of Service which unmistakably states …

By uploading content to Twitpic you give Twitpic permission to use or distribute your content on or affiliated sites.
You retain all ownership rights to Content uploaded to Twitpic. However, by submitting Content to Twitpic, you hereby grant Twitpic a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Content in connection with the Service and Twitpic’s (and its successors’ and affiliates’) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels.

Yfrogs terms of service however states that –

The content that you distribute through the ImageShack Network is owned by you, and you give ImageShack permission to display and distribute said content exclusively on the ImageShack Network.

Although people seem to find Yfrog difficult to use and nagivate.

So I’d say it is bad for Twitpic, maybe they got too greedy? However  hopefully Twitter will design a superior, smoother, simplier to navigate service that protects our photographs copyright without being able to share them without our consent.

Twitter launching its own photo sharing service isn’t really that mind blowing for us Twitter users but for 3rd party applications its not good, I wonder what it means for the future?

What about a file sharing service via DM…now –  that could be handy.

Any idea’s?

EDIT – So now we know……..

Photobucket Corporation, the world’s leading dedicated photo and video
sharing service, today announced that Photobucket will power Twitter’s native photo sharing capabilities
– allowing users to easily upload and share photos directly in Tweets.

Baby Born Web camera Facebook Scam

Over a week has gone since we saw the last Scam on Facebook, this one cunningly applies new ploys to get you to assist in plastering  it all over Facebook, and it seems to be doing the trick.

Baby Born Amazing Effect – Webcamera

This claims to have amazing effects of a big baby being born on video –  On the link is a paused video shot that looks like the start of the birth, you can imagine what its of.

When you click the link it appears to take you to a address. It attempts to open the video but brings up a further message, asking you to like the page before it will play.   Of course clicking this will post the same original message to your friends without further consent or knowledge.

If you have clicked this then go to

Profile – Activities and Interest – Remove Page.

Also, be aware for this old email, aparently doing the rounds again

Email Exceeded Storage Limit Phishing Scam

The email claims that your email account and exceeded it storage limit and tell you to reply with your username and password to increase the storage.
Just delete and ignore.
Please change your password immediately if you did send your information.
Of course you wouldn’t do that would you…
Be safe, hope this helps

Many users still suffering with empty timelines / missing tweets

If you use the Social networking and microblogging service,  Twitter – you may well have noticed some problems today; for the past 4 hours users have been tweeting about –

1. No Tweets in timeline
2. Can’t see own Tweets
3. Can’t see anyones Tweets
4. Only can see @mentions

Some people have now had there service restored but still some people are making the same complaints.  At first it seemed that the problem was only from applications but its the same on itself.

@support tweeted 3 hours ago that they know about the issues are are working hard to fix it.

About the same time the Twitter status page said something similar…

Not a great week all in all – yesterday we had the problems with the new notifications.

And on Monday there were elevated, or even evated error rates reported on the Twitter status page.

We are currently experiencing elevated error rates. There may be intermittent issues loading and Twitter clients.  We are aware of the problem and taking action. Thanks for your patience!
Note: Some users may experience a delay in Tweet delivery.
UPDATE Tue May 24 02:08 UTC 2011: We’re now recovering and expect a full recovery on the order of a few hours.
UPDATE Tue May 24 02:45 UTC 2011: Twitter is fully recovered.

No more updates from Twitter support since then, will give any updates as they arrive if possible.

Update @support at 2am GMT – Not seeing your timeline? DON’T PANIC! We’re working on it and affected users will see their timelines restored in the coming hours.about 16 hours ago via web from Bernal Heights, San Francisco by troy

Update from Twitter status – Update (Thursday May 26 05:15 UTC): The issue has been resolved

However it clearly isn’t resolved as there are still many tweets complaining about no tweets in timeline, no homepage etc.

  1. awilliams_7 Do any tweeps have any idea why my timeline isn’t showing? I definitely follow over 1,000 people (not proud) and yet can’t see any tweets!18 minutes ago via web
  2. OutlandishAx Can’t see my tweets you guys!19 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®scouserachel
  3. @leejonathan well I can’t because she can see my tweets. me and her are finished I suppose.

So obviously some people are still affected by absent tweets.

Hope this helps; Sometimes, its just reassuring to know that you are not alone.

How to stop (turn off) the new Twitter (spam) notifications.

Yesterday Twitter notified users of that they were rolling out email notifications that let you know if someone you follow retweets or favorites one of your tweets.

However it appears from complaints from Twitter users that they are also getting emails everytime they get an @message, ( a twitter mention )  I’ve not seen this myself  but this is what people are tweeting.

It appears that if you chose to have any email notifications at all previous to this change then this option was automatically turned on so you have to opt out – more of a Facebook trick than Twitter.

This could prove extremely difficult for high users and celebrities, especially if they signed up with an email they actually use (big mistake, huge).

But don’t panic…

… to stop these notifications go to Settings – Notifications –  This is where you choose when and how often  Twitter sends you emails.  Untick what you like, (I prefer to untick all)  and click save.

Hope this helps !

You don’t care about your Klout score until its GONE!

Although some people maintain that the Klout scores mean nothing, its amazing how many users went into shock earlier today when they found out that their Klout score had been reduced  to a measly 1 !!

I did notice that mine had strangely gone down but only by from 64 to 60  I’m not sure if that is included in this drama sadly 🙂

It turned out Klout did have a problem seemingly partly due to the fact that they have an increasing 75 million social media profiles! wow!

Klout were quickly on the scene though by sending out tweets saying – its not you its us, and fixing the Klout scores now with an announcement on Klouts blog here. does seem to be up and running but there is a still message at the top of the page saying that maintenance is still being done, so hopefully all will be fixed soon if it is not already.

Is it that you don’t care about the Klout score til its gone?  🙂

After all – its not the end of the world….

…its Judgement day.

All of our social networks, especially  Twitter and Facebook are talking today – May 21, 2011 – about it being the end of the world, some are even a bit worried about it. Firstly its all pointless to be worried unless you believe in the bible secondly, in the bible it says that it is Judgement Day in the Rapture, not actually the end of the world.

What is Judgement Day in the Rapture?

The apparent meaning is that all True believers will be returned to heaven. ( Supposedly billions raptured.)  So if you are not a true believer you are stuck here with the rest of us for about five months, they say October 21, 2011.

Consequently,  if everyone you know or don’t know that goes to church and calls themselves a real believer are still here after today, you may as well forget about the second part.

The full explaination is here from the ebiblefellowship if you want to be really confused. 🙂

Hope this helps.

The pansy or pansy violets are a large group of hybrid plants cultivated as garden flowers. Pansies are derived from Viola species Viola tricolorhybridized with other viola species, these hybrids are referred to as Viola × wittrockiana

[1] or less commonly Viola tricolor hortensis. The name “pansy” also appears as part of the common name for other Viola species that are wildflowers in Europe. Some unrelated species, such as thePansy Monkeyflower, also have “pansy” in their name.

How to hard and soft reset your HTC Desire HD

After my review of the HTC Desire HD I had to reset the phone, so it was all nice and clean for when I reluctantly returned the phone.  This can also be used if your phone is unresponsive or having problems running slow.

(That is if you’ve tried the old trick of “turning it off and on again”  – restart it by pressing and holding the power button or removing the battery. This they call a soft reset.

This is how I performed the hard or factory reset.

Press – Home Screen – Menu – Settings

Now some instructions say Privacy but mine was in SD & Phone Storage (so try both)

Press – Factory data reset.

This resets all the setting back to the orignal settings without  removing data on the SD Card. (Which is why I had lots of other people photo’s on my trial phone 🙂 )

If that doesn’t work you use the phone buttons.

Press the power button and the volume at the same time, using the volume button select hard reset or clear storage – and press power again.

Factory reset is not a step to be taken lightly. It will permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will also remove any applications you’ve downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.

Hope this helps

New Scam on Facebook – Enable Dislike Button

There is a new scam spreading VERY fast on Facebook and it is to – Enable Dislike Button.

There is no Dislike Button on Facebook; it is fake.

It is very clever and looks extremely genuine!  Once you click the Enable Dislike Button you are given instructions on how to enable the dislike button.

Once you do this , your friends will be spammed with this message on their wall.

The scammers are obviously coining in again on something that Facebook users want.  There have been many facebook pages, requests and campaigns about the dislike button. Facebook users would like to dislike what people say, so its very popular.

Just Don’t Click ……..

It doesn’t appear to have a virus, however according to reports it runs obfuscated JavaScript on your computer, that isn’t so good, so you should follow the link below and at the end of the page it shows you how to  remove to the scam application.

Please share this and tell your friends, don’t the scam win.

Hope this helps!

Sony PlayStation PSN back online makes for happy Tweeters!

We heard yesterday and through out today that from @playstation on and the PlayStation.Blog that Sony Playstation had started restoring PSN  services for the  US; Northeast, California, Southeast, Midwest and MId-Atl, West and Puerto Rico.

Happy Tweets have been flowing through twitter all day.  Right now Gamers are a happy as a geek at a free Star Wars convention.

Stormhansen #playstation #network is online! Better start#winning again ! 😀

peter_stephens #PSN is back up and all is well with the world again!!! #playstation #sony

Kim_Fuego #playstation Black Ops is baaaaaack!

And later tonight, we heard of many PPL in the UK either waiting for confirmation emails to change passwords, which seem to be taking sometime to get through, and again many tweets.

CoDBattles_com #Playstation in UK back online!

ThoLan36 Playstation Network is back online in the UK for Online Gaming, PS Store still undergoing maintenance #PSN #Playstation

CiaraDoyle85 #playstation network finally up and running in the uk. Gonna surround myself with drinks and snacks so I don’t have to move all night 🙂

MightyASLC #playstation3 #ps3 #psn #playstation network is back to #UK !!!

The PSN seems to limping on line again like a 3 legged camel but its started at least.  Strangely enough there aren’t too many people making derogatory remarks, about the huge downtime and the lack of information. The complaints have stopped for the time being.  One person did say that they don’t even care anymore, but on the whole there’s a huge buzz that gamers are live again.

Oh dear I spoke to soon as the tweets are coming through that the password reset link has gone down! There is doom and gloom again, it won’t last long, I assume there are a fair few people trying to reset their passwords all at once.

peteprodge @PlayStation Why the hell is the password reset link DEAD?

20Anthony11 @PlayStation trying reset my password online and the server goes down!!!! for ****sake has created a guide on how to change your PlayStation@Network Password.  The link is here

Just be careful about bogus emails from people asking for new passwords for PlayStation (looks like you do it online)  as I fear that will be next.

Above all, enjoy!
