Facebook Profile Viewer Scam – Who is looking at your timeline?

By | November 24th, 2012|Categories: Scams|Tags: , , , , , , , |

CC - http://www.flickr.com/photos/striatic/2192192956/ Can you see who is looking at your facebook profile I last wrote about this scam 2 years ago, or a scam just like it - as the above link shows - and still we have not learned our lesson. We are still clicking and sharing these applications.  Who is watching your Profile, who are my Facebook profile visitors, who is looking at your timeline. Someone suggested we are curious, I think we are paranoid. Is my ex looking at what I am saying on Facebook? Does that boy I fancy know I stalk him on facebook? HA, not me!   You know you can block people or set your profile up so that not everyone can view it or even find it. Facebook Profile Viewer Scam This latest one appears to be an app called Facebook Profile Viewers, which was shared by a "friend" on Facebook to 45 people that I can see. If he did that on purpose I can only assume that he thought it was real - but I would probably put money on it that [...]

Whitney Houston Scams – Be careful what you click

By | February 17th, 2012|Categories: Scams|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Whitney Houston Scams As usual when someone dies, the hackers, scammers, cyber criminals use it against us. They know we are weak, they know we are not paying attention. They know we are all fighting for new information or great tracks... What happened? Why did it happen? Is it true? What is going to happen? I love that song! This is when they get us, when we are not thinking, we click a link and bam - its gone to all our friends and family saying its safe because you liked it. There are even some going around that say they are going to show you Whitney's autopsy really? You'd click that?  Well I know some are so distraught they just need to know the facts. The Autopsy one doesn't take you to a YouTube link but says that flash needs to be updated, and you have to install. Another one, takes you to a link to download Whitney wallpaper ... woah! Big Mistake - Huge!  You will be installing something very nasty! Usually it will just take you to a [...]

Message appearing on Facebook claiming to change your Facebook Pink, is a survey scam There are ways to switch to a Pink Facebook using Chrome which you can Google for but there is a link spreading on Facebook at the moment, which is a hoax. Title - Switch to Pink Facebook (Limited Time) The link here is the same as all survey scams - when you click it, it spams all of your friends facebook walls telling them of the good news, that you have a pink facebook, which you don't realise until its too late. You are asked to first fill in a survey for verification but of course, nothing happens, they now have lots of information from you and the scammers have been paid for their efforts in scamming you. If you see this on your wall delete it, and tell the person to inform followers that it is a scam, and follow these instructions to remove a facebook scam. Always check out suspicious links before clicking it, IF IN DOUBT DON'T CLICK ! Update : There are now other scams - [...]

Malware Email spreading fast!

By | August 18th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , |

Hitting with force in your inbox at the moment is an email regarding a speeding ticket - Traffic Ticket - that you haven't paid.   This email contains a Trojan horse, which is basically malware disguising itself as a safe program or application. A Trojan horse...  ...may allow a hacker remote access to a target computer system. Once a Trojan has been installed, the hacker may have access to the computer remotely and perform various operations, limited by user privileges on the target computer system and the design of the Trojan.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_horse_(computing)Many people are reporting being caught by or receiving  this email - it is American so if you are not in America you should spot right away that something is not right but you still may be tempted to click!  Which is what they want - Trojans do not self-replicate like other viruses they are spread manually by you. Just don't open the attachment! The email appears to come from a reputable source @nyc.gov which of course is fake and is intended to frighten you into opening the attachment. Also another tell tale [...]

Warning! Twitter Scam – Is this blog about you?

By | July 16th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

There is another Phishing scam going around Twitter.  This is similar to the "Is this you in this picture"  and "Is this you in this video" You get a DM asking Is this blog about you with a link - here is the one I revived today. People are saying that when you click the link it takes you to a twitter log in page, it then takes over your account and sends out DM's to your friends from your twitter account. Think before you click! The danger is that these DM's are from friends and you don't think about it when you click as you wonder - ooh am I featured in a blog? If you have clicked on this, you need to change your password immediately and try to warn the people that you have DM'd not to click the link.  I sent a message to the above account to tell this this is happening, as that is the other problem, you don't actually realise right away that it is happening. Update - I've also received the "This gotta be you in [...]

Facebook Scam – INCREDIBLE This girl is rapped in the school buss

By | July 9th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , |

This is just gross! (the idea of it, not the video, as there isn't one) This scam is exactly the same as the last one I posted about, girl leaves her cam on - why anyone would click this link is beyond me.  Although the picture is of a naked woman maybe people assume its just porn, however it does warn you of disturbing content. Seen on Facebook today I'm not sure if its spelt wrong on purpose - trying to do teen speak - or if its the bad spellers from the last few similar scams. Obviously you know by now you aren't going to see a video - you will be asked if you are over 13 to play the video and then you will post the message above to all of your facebook friends so they can see that you liked this! Survey Scam Then it will load up a survey scam .... this is the reason for the scam, they scammers want you to complete the survey because this is how they get paid. Do not [...]

Fake FBI messages circulating – Contains Malware.

By | May 5th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , |

We first saw this exact e-mail years ago from the FBI or CIA saying that they have logged your IP address on 40 illegal Websites, and it seems to be back in force again. It used to contain a virus called Sober, but now it seems to contain malware in the style of a zip file that pretends its a virus to get at your credit card details. The hackers are just trying to scare (scare-ware) you into opening the file. The Spam email looks like this. .gov email address usually with lots of numbers.... Subject: You visit illegal websites Message: We  have logged your IP Adress on more than 40 illegal websites Please answer our questions on the form attached. Attachment: document.zipThe FBI are often having their name used in cyber attacks  via email scams - malware attacks and even telephone scams. There is another one also doing the rounds at the moment regarding  Osama bin Laden, claiming it contains photos or videos of course it doesn't; it probably contains a virus or malicious software likely to take over your computer, and steal personal data. [...]

Spotify hit by a virus attack

By | March 26th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Digital music service Spotify (free version)  has been attacked by malware. It came via malicious third-party adverts so Spotify have removed ads for now, until they sort it out. Twitter users are still complaining to @Spotify about this; It would appear that it is proving very difficult to locate the source of the malware and Spotify are asking twitter users to help, they are asking what ads caused the problems. The twitter community are trying to assist with one twitter posting screen prints to Spotify, another person offered run tests for them. @ Spotify on twitter said - We're still investigating but we take this very seriously and will take every step possible to ensure it doesn't occur again. One website has reported that AVG software has identified one of the malicious payloads as Trojan horse Generic_r.FZ. According to Sophos this comes at the same time as another malicious ad on Facebook, asking you to install Adobe Flash player, which is when you get the malware.  Apparently this  has now been taken care of by Facebook. Let this be a reminder to us that we must regularly scan our system for malware, you never know where it might [...]

How to change your settings to use HTTPS on Twitter – its safer.

By | March 21st, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

I recently explained how to change your settings on Facebook to HTTPS since they added the option due to a hacking indecent, and now finally Twitter has actually added this option for users to always use HTTPS. When a user connects to a website via HTTPS, the website encrypts the session with a digital certificate. A user can tell if they are connected to a secure website if the website URL begins with https:// instead of http:// HTTPS helps to protect your password from being stolen, especially if you are using a public WiFi network When using Twitter.com we could always use HTTPS but had to manually type it in, there is now a box for you to tick in settings to make sure that you always use the more secure HTTPS. Twitter also uses HTTPS as a default on its log-in page so that users' credentials are encrypted. Its official iPhone and iPad applications also have HTTPS as their default setting. If you are using a 3rd Party app you need to check if your have settings on there so [...]
