Follr a digital identity website

By | December 11th, 2013|Categories: Social Networking Tools|Tags: , , , |

Founders Stephen Fells and Mark Wayman call Follr a digital identity website.  Follr is a personally branded website that can be used as your initial point of contact, like you would use a business card but digitally.  Follr suggest that they solve the problem of our ever changing social identities getting lost and fragmented by storing all of our content and professional or personal information, ie our digital identity. So, I signed up for a free trial of follr in October to test and see what it was all about, I set up my profile, added my links, followed/friended a couple of people - its seemed great, but at the time work was really busy and it was put on the back burner.  In that time, it went very quite and I thought there would be a big buzz about it, reminding me to go there but Mark Wayman told me they were getting things to perfection before shouting, I think it now time to shout! This network is cool! What are the features of Follr News Feed - The same [...]

Do you need more followers?

By | November 21st, 2013|Categories: Social Networks|Tags: , , , |

DO YOU NEED MORE FOLLOWERS? People seem to be scrambling to get more followers, circles, likes, friends but the question is why do you need more followers.  Do you want a larger follower base on Twitter just to look important or to create engagement, interest in your website, brand awareness or sales? Businesses and professionals should not be asking how can I get more followers but how can I create a quality audience of a decent quantity, that is the trick.  Lots of fake followers are easy to get but are they the right followers? Its easy to spot people with fake accounts, and you don't want to be labeled as a faker, as this will diminish trust. FAKE ACCOUNTS If you want more followers just to boost your ego and pretend you are famous and actually get no engagement, from anyone you can go to one of these cheap tacky sites and pay for a load of bots or fake accounts to follow or like you. Buying followers on any network could get you banned however.  Or you can [...]

Social Network Emails – Your account may have been compromised – What to do.

By | February 23rd, 2013|Categories: Scams|Tags: , , |

Users are still concerned after receiving emails saying that their accounts might have been compromised or the one entitled -  Important information regarding your security and privacy from social networking sites -  Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest. The problem arose when Zendesk  who store and organise emails for customer support and help desks for these social networks had their systems hacked. Zendesk believe that during the security breach personal information such as email addresses linked to these platforms may have been downloaded by the hacker. Quote from the zendesk blog  We believe that the hacker downloaded email addresses of users who contacted those three customers for support, as well as support email subject lines. We notified our affected customers immediately and are working with them to assist in their response. This will only affect you if you have emailed customer support at Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr - which most of us have at some point. I imagine if you have then that is why you have received an email warning you of the breach. - There is no indication that passwords have been stolen at all. So, I [...]

Social networking at its best with Favo.rs

By | December 19th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

Favo.rs is a social networking platform where users can trade help for free.  Favo.rs officially launched about two weeks ago and as far as I can make out is the work of Adam Rodnitzky, George Aspland and Scott Roberts who are all listed as co-founders. I signed up today for favo.rs and I have enjoyed helping a few people out, and finding out all about it, I think it is going to be a great "help" to all. It is simple to sign up - you can just log in with your Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter and link the others and you simply connect to help others and ask for help. Its a fantastic idea, as sometimes we all need a little assistance, getting that blog seen or a tweet heard, and here you feel no shame in asking for help.  Although most of what I have seen is people helping not asking, I had to look around for people that needed help. When you ask a favor, people can answer you, or broadcast it on their various networks or vouch for [...]

Need an honest opinion? Ask Opinionaided.

By | November 12th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Opinionaided is a mobile social networking application designed for asking opinions and advice to a large community in realtime.   Similar to Quora (which came after)  but from what I've seen it seems that this one is more used by the younger generation for questions such as.. Do you like my new hairstyle?  or Am I good-looking  -  where as Quora is more for business type questions I find.  However you can filter these questions out and just go to a specific topic. Opinionaided was launched in 2010 by founder Dan Kurani and co-founders Mike Melli and Matt Holloway and already has many users. Originally for iphone, ipod, and iPad, but is now available on Android and Online. The interesting thing about Opinionaided is the phenomenal response rate - the first time I used it I asked a pretty lame question and within seconds I had 10 answers!  What networking site can you say that about? Its very easy to use there are five buttons at the bottom of the screen which are Home - Where you get two options - Ask [...]

Where have all the Twitter stats gone? – Twitter Counter

By | October 16th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

All of my old trusted favourite Twitter stats tools have gone, like twitter analyzer and tweet stats, well Tweetstats is still running but only up to July and the stats are incorrect. I used to love these types of graph stats, they gave you interesting fun statistics for our social networking site Twitter, such as who you @ the most tweets per hour reply stats what you tweet about location of tweeters There are plenty of new analyzers that give you information such as what your influence is and your score due to how often you are retweeted and such like - its all about scores. We like scores too but we also love the fun stuff. Twitter Counter If you Google "twitter stats" now you will find at the top and still around is Twitter Counter following behind is tweetstats and twitaholic. Twitter Counter is just one of the companies co-owned by the interesting internet entrepreneur Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten who is the co-founder of TheNextWeb.Com - SocialStatistics and useqwitter.  Boris is one of those truly fascinating characters that always seems to be coming up [...]

Nokia N8 – Can’t Connect To Gateway – My solution.

By | January 26th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , |

This wasn't the first blog about the Nokia N8 that I expected to write after WomWorld/Nokia sent me a mobile phone to trial, so I can review. However even though I'm slightly embarrassed that I took a while to work this out, I thought this little post might help others. When I first got the Nokia N8 2 days ago I didn't have much time to have a look at it, I did have a little look around put in my passwords and logged in to some accounts, and it all seemed fine including Twitter. Yesterday when I returned home from work to have another look at it, it would not connect to Twitter via Ovi's social network. I put in my name and password, and it would seem to try to connect, then I would get the message Cannot Connect to Gateway.  It seemed really odd as I could use the web browser and download apps from the Ovi Store, (but not social networking apps). So this suggested that the Wifi (WLAN) was set up ok but there was problem somewhere. I had a look [...]

Safe Social Networking for our kids!

By | September 23rd, 2010|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Whether you like it or not your child will probably have access to a computer and the internet at a very early age, by the age of 5 these children will be able to use many areas of a computer and surprisingly enough the first thing they remember is how to connect to the internet.   Has your young child asked for a Facebook account yet?   Sites like Facebook MySpace and Twitter are being blocked from many school networks as they are not suitable for young children, which is right those sites are not, but young children are aware of these sites, they see their parents or guardians and siblings using the networks and understandably they want to join in. (I'll just remind you that sites like Facebook, Bebo and MySpace  set minimum ages of around 13) Why shouldn't they become involved? We can teach them how to use social networking sites safely and efficiently when they are young so that by the time they get to teenagers they know how to keep safe and be more responsible. Firstly by showing [...]
