What does 1GB data allowance mean – Mobile

By | October 27th, 2012|Categories: Mobile apps|Tags: , , , , |

What is data allowance I hate being restricted to how much mobile data allowance I have - you are never sure how  much you you are using.  Thats why if I can, I will always go for unlimited, or as Three.uk call it  All-you-can-eat-data when sorting out my tariffs. When going on holiday people are always asking me - how long can I go on the internet for if I only have so much data allowance per day - the trouble is it doesn't really work that way - it depends what you are doing. Orange now have an app to help you with holiday useage called Travel Angel - on iTunes - I haven't tested it yet, and to be honest it doesn't have good reviews but it looks to be perfect for setting up holiday packages and keeping an eye on data usage - more about that later. Three uk know that people are very confused about how much data certain websites or operations use, so they have created this infographic to show the difference between All-you-can-eat-data and 1GB data [...]

SoundHound can name that tune, just sing or hum.

By | January 2nd, 2012|Categories: Mobile apps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

What song is this - What's that track - Tra la la. Is that a familiar question? All day you have had that annoying song going around in your head, you have no idea what the artist or the title of the track is, and you only know a few words, which doesn't come up in a Google search. (Yes this is me!) SoundHound could let you keep your sanity! SoundHound is a music recognition application by SoundHound Inc. which can recognise tracks from your singing - well most of the time, and that's with my bad singing!  It is said to have the worlds fastest music recognition, exclusive singing search, voice search and lyrics. This application has been around in one form or another for some time - once known as Midomi - It has had many updates and changes to it!  It is also listed as a New York Times top ten app for iPhone and Android. When I first saw Shazam I thought that was amazing, but this has the extras that I wanted Shazam to have, lyrics and [...]

Blank screen on Nokia 6700 Fix

By | October 9th, 2011|Categories: Tips and Tricks|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Recently we had a problem with a Nokia 6700 mobile phone, the problem was a blank or black screen with a back light. After searching the internet we could not find out what the problem was - so I decided to share this with you as we found out the solution. None of the buttons seemed to do anything, I asked some of my Nokia friends who suggested the 3 finger reset which actually you need 4 fingers for, as you also have to turn the phone on.  This solution seemed to make the phone make a noise, sometimes the start up noise and sometimes just a beep but still nothing on the screen, it was just dead. We suddenly realised that we hadn't tried to take a call with the phone, so we called it and it rang, we were able to answer the phone and talk on it.  This made us assume that the phone could be still ok but it was actually a screen fault. So we ordered a screen from ebay  - "NEW LCD SCREEN DISPLAY [...]

Setting up MMS or Internet on your T-Mobile Phone

By | September 19th, 2011|Categories: Mobile - Reviews and News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

If you have changed your phone or swapped sim cards to another handset you might be frustrated to find that you cannot connect to your social media networks or send MMS (picture messages). That is because you need to be setting up MMS again. You may have even received a text message from T-Mobile asking your to set up these services and to reply to 34967 however it sometimes it doesn't work - the message comes back that it cannot be sent to this address. Strange! I'm not sure why this happens but it appears to be happening to a lot of people - it is the correct number so it doesn't appear to be a scam, but this error is happening and people are confused at how to set up their cell phone.  T-mobile just say that they are having issues. Don't Worry... Setting Up MMS All you have to do is go to the link   http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS and you can send yourself the correct settings anytime for free.  Just follow the onscreen instructions, it takes seconds. Hope this helps

My impressions of the Nokia X7

By | August 26th, 2011|Categories: Mobile - Reviews and News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I was recently given a Nokia X7 to test out for review from WOMworld Nokia  - my first impressions were of the box actually, the box looked more like something that you would get from Apple (except it was blue) than Nokia, not that a box matters really.  It was just compact and smart looking, I hate it when you get a massive box with lots of plastic with a mobile phone lost inside it, there is no need. On opening the box I was met with the stylish 8 megapixel Smartphone with a 4inch Amoled touchscreen. The X7 is pleasing to the eye, as it is not a standard rectangle shape but each of the corners have a grill design which angle inwards slightly creating an unusual and futuristic appearance. It is solid to touch but also light, it feels good quality and comfortable in your hand. The Gorilla glass scratch protection screen not only is great to look at but is very responsive this makes me happy, especially when this phone is designed for entertainment, the last thing you want [...]

Facebook Phonebook – are my contact numbers on show?

By | August 11th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Here we go again .. There is some confusion on Facebook about your contact numbers from your phone showing on your Facebook profile - this has popped up again since the arrival of the new application from Facebook called "Facebook Messenger"  where you can IM people from Facebook.  (Maybe because you have to Sync your contacts to use it?) There is a viral message appearing in our feeds that says ... All the phone numbers in your phone are now published on Facebook.   This ability (contacts)  has been there since the "Facebook Phonebook" feature at least a year ago, maybe more.   We also had a similar viral message going around then which warned that it was a security threat. This can only happen apparently if you have in fact sync'd your mobile application with Facebook.  Even though I have even searched through lots of my friends to see if I can see any of their friends phone numbers - There is no option to view other peoples contacts. However! ... I can see my own contacts numbers, which include [...]

Itunes down – Getting tired of these problems!

By | April 20th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , |

For the past hour or so people on Twitter have been complaining about iTunes app store being down, this appears to be world wide. Is it to do with the iTunes update 10.2.2?  I was hoping that was going to sort out some problems, not create more. The only sort of confirmation that seems to have been received is yes, iTunes servers are down and they are trying to sort it; will be for down for about another 90mins. Thanks for that Apple. However, for some services  have now been resumed, like mine, we noticed first when we were trying to download some apps and the waiting message hung there until it told us that the app could not be downloaded.  Other apps just stayed on the waiting message and we left t hem until they eventually downloaded about an hour later. Do you think its a bit strange that the down time came at  around the same time of this tweet about Skynet "queue the spooky music". Why the downtime and for so long? For some its been two [...]

Just5 J509 the phone for the elderly – with SOS

By | March 20th, 2011|Categories: Mobile - Reviews and News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

When Alex Petrov of Just5 asked me to review a Just5 mobile phone I felt honoured. I'd recently seen an article by Engadget that Just5 were at MWC2011 with a brand new model the CP11 and it looked very interesting. The phone that I received in the post - however, was the cell phone Just5 J509, both utilize the same design scheme, large buttons, loudspeaker and the SOS button, but the CP11 has a  slide out screen. This is a mobile phone for maybe your mum, dad, grandparents, someone that is hard of hearing, with poor eyesight, or even someone special needs.  With its huge numbers and basic features, its very easy to use. The non tech savvy people who say, I just want a phone that makes calls, will love it. This phone feels very light, its a comfortable size, and its very sturdy. Just5 Five basic features 1. Big Buttons These big buttons really do make a difference. Easy to dial even without putting on glasses. 2. Ease of Operation Removed unnecessary functions, to make this the easiest phone ever. 3. Amplified Sound [...]
