Calibre ebook management for Kindle or ebook reader

By | December 11th, 2011|Categories: Reviews|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I love Calibre - Calibre is a free open source e-book library management application.  In short - it manages your eBooks like iTunes does for your tracks. I'm late to this game, as Calibre actually launched in 2006 after the release of the first e-ink based reader the Sony PRS-500. Kovid Goyal immediately realised that there were no good tools to convert the books in to the correct formats to be able to read them on the Sony, so with the help of mobileread.com libres500 was born, later to be changed to Calibre in 2008. Today calibre is a vibrant open-source community with half a dozen developers and many, many testers and bug reporters. It is used in over 200 countries and has been translated into a dozen different languages by volunteers. calibre has become a comprehensive tool for the management of digital texts, allowing you to do whatever you could possibly imagine with your e-book library - Kovid Goyal 2009.  How to use Calibre eBook management tool on the Kindle Its so simple to use but I will run you though the options on the interface [...]

New, new Twitter simplified? Is Old Twitter back?

By | December 8th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , |

Today on 8th December 2011 Twitter announced a new version of Twitter, they say that they have simplified the design to make it easier to follow, connect and discover. They will be rolling this version out over the next few weeks but you can already get it on mobile iPhone or Android, just download from iTunes or Marketplace. So did they bring back Old Twitter..... No I'm afraid not. However, maybe they have been listening to our complaints and problems with the last update to Twitter, as it looks pretty good.  Sadly not back to full screen but maybe more important information at the sides than the wasted space before. What the new twitter icons mean. This is your home button - where you view your lineline. Your favourite features are on the left.  All you need to see is embedded in the tweet, so you can click on photos videos or conversations easily.       Connect - This button takes you to a place that shows you who has followed or mentioned retweeted or faved your tweets.  This [...]

By | February 21st, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

With so much publicity over the last few days Ubermedia must be rubbing their hands together. I'm sure they had a bit of work to do but I'm also certain have now gained many new users, with having a trending topic for 4 days. This suspension hasn't done them any harm as far as I can see. Last night people were tweeting like mad waiting for for a link after Ubersocial announced11pm GMT Sunday - @UBERSOC - Great news! Twitter has approved our changes, and we expect to provide a new version in about an hour. But it was almost 3 hours before they posted a link by which time users were in a frenzy - they were  ecstatic to have it back. There reasons for the suspension are on my blog: Why can't I log into Ubertwitter and TwidroydYou can now download the new and improved - Ubersocial for Blackberry, iphone and the Desktop which is in beta here at http://ubersocial.com/ I'm certainly going to try out the Desktop version now after so many users have professed their love   for (recommended) Ubertwitter, maybe it will be my [...]

Facebook Closing?! How to back up Facebook.

By | January 9th, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , |

Due to a now viral message, everyone now believes that Facebook is closing down on 15th March? LOL Oh really? They've just got $500 million investment from Goldman Sachs and Digital Sky Technologies but that's not important right now,  apparently its all too much for Mark Zuckerberg and he's closing down. Its not a funfair at Hastings that hasn't been running well for 3 years... its not a Chip~Shop that started selling soggy chips... its not something that Yahoo got bored with... its FACEBOOK! Its all over the internet now, and of course its just..... a horrible hoax, a joke, a set of Chinese whispers, a ridiculous rumour. This "joke" was apparently started at Weekly world News, who evidently are about as regarded for their news worthiness as the Daily Star. another headline today on the same page ........
