All you see now on your profile page is a blank background. You still of course do have your twitter cover picture.
Its not just you – Twitter removed backgrounds
It might have been nice for Twitter to make an announcement but so far all we see is a quote on Mashable and maybe another site.
A spokesperson for Twitter told Mashable
“We’re removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all users,”
“Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages).
Here is mine on a list page
So Twitter background images are in fact still there but you just can’t see them from your profile page – you can still custom your design however. Which it looks like I should do.
Log in to Twitter
- Click your profile picture
- Click Settings
- Click Design
- Scroll to customise your own
- Click Change Background
You can also add a colour here
- Click Save
I am surprised at how bothered people are really – as don’t most people use apps such as Hootsuite or Tweetdeck or mobile apps those people would never see your backgrounds anyway. I do use twitter.com to log in mostly as I liked how twitter was just plain previously and I don’t even recall looking at most peoples backgrounds, which is basically why twitter have said they removed this feature but people are speculating this is actually to make room for ads on Twitter.
What Twitter users are saying about missing Background Images
Also according the Guardian there is also a workaround – A coder has already produced a Google Chrome plugin to reverse Twitter’s change, allowing background images to be restored for users
I’ve not tried it and won’t be – bur here is the link Twitter Background restorer
So don’t panic – Its not just you – Twitter removed backgrounds – lets move on now 🙂
