Don't forget to share

How often should you post on Social NetworksBusinesses starting out on social media, often ask the question – How often should you post on Social Networks. Is there a set amount of tweets to do per day?  Am I posting on Facebook too much or not enough?

We think that it really depends on your following, what your business is, how active your followers are – so its good to do your own research – what response do you get when you post?

On my personal twitter account I post many many times a day – whenever I see something interesting or if someone I know posts something great I like to share it for them too. However personal accounts are different to business accounts and you need to be careful with your frequency.

Luckily for you Sumall and Buffer (which are great platforms you should check out actually) have done some extensive research on social media frequency and created this really cute infographic.

You might be shocked to see the results of this research.

How often should you post on social networks

According to this reasearch – engagment likes and comments begin to drop off after posting this many times on these networks

  • Pinterest – At least 5 times a day
  • Twitter – At least 3 times a day
  • Facebook – At Most 2 times a day – Facebook has changed a lot in recent times and it continues to do so, posting here more often doesn’t help with engagement at all.
  • Linkedin – Once a day
  • Google+ No more than 3 times a day
  • Instatgram – 1.5 times a day!  HUH 🙂

They also say you should blog twice a week.

Although I do agree with the results of Sumall’s research, Pinterest is the most surprising find for me, I tend to treat Pinterest as I would Instagram – Even though I find engagement and follows on Pinterest are acceptable, I will definitely be posting more frequently on Pinterest to see if there is a difference. Also bare in mind  that with Twitter it says AT LEAST – 3 – this is a very small number for Twitter and I’d advise much more frequency than this however this is the minimum.

Google+ I don’t agree with at all – the most I post on Google+ the more engagement I get.

Obviously if you are new to social media – you should also bare in mind that you can’t just post, post, post and leave it – you do need a social media strategy.
