As daybreak breaks Landmark and Everquest Next with layoffs players come together to show their support.  For those that don’t know Landmark is an Online MMO Game which was being developed by Sony Online Entertainment and was the Everquest Next counterpart.

Just last week Sony sold Sony Online Entertainment to Columbus Nova and who changed SOE’s name to Daybreak.  Players were told, don’t worry nothing will change, its business as usual – little did they know.  We heard from Dave Georgeson and Jeff Butler on the last LandMark Live show on Twitch who seemed confident and very excited to be continuing work – more so on Everquest Next than landmark they explained. With Landmark Open Beta coming very soon they were going to run with it while they worked on Everquest Next.   We weren’t expecting this shocker today..

Daybreak breaks Landmark and Everquest Next with Layoffs

Today Daybreak lays off several staff –  the numbers might even go into the 20’s we are unsure at this time – but what we do know is that Daybreak have let go some of the most important people involved with Everquest Next and Landmark.  Which includes the Everquest Director of Development Dave Georgeson who for most players WAS landmark and Linda Carlson who (we all knew as Brasse) the Global Community Relations Lead.

Daybreak said they they will need to adjust staff but it won’t affect the operation of current games – which fair enough in a takeover this often happens where people bring in their own staff or they get rid of staff because the new company can’t afford them or feel they can manage without them BUT as I said before Dave was a big part of landmark he was always there – always tweeting and always sharing other peoples images and interacting with hundreds of players – I don’t think that was his job, that was just because he loved it and knew knew players liked to be retweeted by him and chatted to – this way he knew what players wanted and what they were doing and he remembered. Others that have gone were very important too and so are the people that are still working there, we mustn’t forget that. It going to be difficult for them and hopefully they will continue working with Daybreak.  Anyway here is the official letter –

Dear Players, Partners & Friends,

Last week we announced that we were acquired and are now operating independently as
Daybreak Game Company. To better position our newly independent studio for future growth
opportunities and to deliver on our legacy of making top online games, we have had to make
some tough choices including realignment of resources.

Unfortunately, this realignment means adjusting staffing as well. We announced today that we
will eliminate positions in our San Diego and Austin studios. We deeply value our employees
and never take these decisions lightly so we’ve done our best to do what’s right for the people
affected. Although extremely difficult, these are necessary actions that will ultimately drive
improved results and help strengthen our company’s foundation for success. Many of us are
saying goodbye to close friends and colleagues who we’ve worked with over the years, and we
are grateful for the memories and all that they’ve contributed. They will be greatly missed, and
we wish them nothing but the best for the future.

These reductions will not affect the operation of our current games and as mentioned above, will
help better position our company for future success. As we move forward, we are committed to
delivering the best online games and working side-by-side with our players to drive the future of
our online games.

Thank you for your continued support,
The Daybreak Games Team

This is what the players had to say
As you will see, there is not much happiness in the landmark communities on  Twitter at the moment with everyone sad or angry at the losses to a game people had just celebrated playing for a year through alpha – key front people that were the community of Landmark are gone. The community was what made Landmark and players are concerned about what will happen next and some just giving up playing completely.

Players are in shock as Daybreak breaks Landmark and Everquest Next with Layoffs

We will have to just wait and see
