Fuss about Mentions on Twitter? #wewantoldtwitterback

By | March 27th, 2013|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , |

Have you seen the hashtag #wewantoldtwitterback and wondered what was going on, well yes, so did I. I saw this being posted out...... There is a message from Twitter uses that states that Twitter has changed it's policy so that now you will only see mentions, retweets and favourites from people you follow - This means that celebrities will never see your tweets to them unless they follow you.  I've seen nothing official from Twitter on this - have you? ..  However I have tested it - and it is correct. I can see it being a problem for some people. We believe this to be a glitch though, or a bug of some sort in the iPhone application  - we have had it before where your mentions weren't appearing at all, and if you deleted the application and re installed it, mentions reappeared. What is going on with @Mentions on Twitter People seem to think that there are new twitter rules for the iPhone app. When you @mention someone that is using the Twitter iPhone application they will not see it in their Twitter stream or feed unless they [...]

Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts

By | March 23rd, 2013|Categories: Tips and Tricks|Tags: |

Let it be said, I love new technology and trying out new stuff but I do not like Windows 8 and I'm glad that I only have it on my laptop - to be honest I couldn't cope without the Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts so I wanted to share them with you.  Yes, there are apps you can download now to add a start button but once you get used to using the shortcut keys, I don't think you will need it. Windows 8 has introduced some great new technologies with their latest operating system, however for me in everyday use the new user interface just isn't user friendly especially when you are using a keyboard and mouse, everything just takes too many clicks. Essential Windows 8 Keyboard shortcuts Think of your windows key as your start button - it is usually located between the Ctrl and the Alt key on the bottom row of your keyboard. Sometimes however the Windows Key is in the middle of then keyboard. However, its not difficult to spot with the windows logo on it.    [...]

Mood Watch the iPhone app helping Mood Disorders

By | March 10th, 2013|Categories: Mobile apps|Tags: , , |

This clever iOS application for iPhone and iPad is used to track the moods of people with Mood Disorders. It helps people suffering with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder and even people just feeling a little low to track how they are feeling mentally, physically and emotionally in order to help them understand themselves better, and to hopefully enrich their lives. Who created the app Mood Watch and why? I found this an interesting story - Kim Knox, who has Bipolar I - created this application after tracking her own moods during a stay at psychiatric hospital.  She started with just five coloured pencils and a note book and began charting how she felt, adding notes about her blood pressure, sleep, what tablets she took and much more information to see how these things were affecting her moods. It was helping her learn about herself but it was so time consuming it was then she thought about creating application to help collate all of this information. It sounds complicated but its actually very simple to use, and the application creates an easy to [...]

Online Tracking – How to cover your tracks

By | March 4th, 2013|Categories: Tips and Tricks|Tags: , |

Big Brother is watching you. With the new Facebook Search starting to roll out, people are talking a lot about online privacy and online tracking.  There's a difference of opinion with people I speak to about online tracking, some say - I don't care I have nothing to hide, let them track me, and others are paranoid that search engines, website and even social networks are tracking our every move.  How do you feel, that while you are leaving this digital footprint you are also leaving a digital trail. What information is tracked? Online Purchases Searches Social networking activities Profile information IP Addresses Browser histories How are we tracked online? Mostly by cookies - no not the cookies mum bakes, but the little text files that are downloaded on to your PC the first time you visit a website. This could just be so next time you go to visit that website it knows you were there before, which is useful for us and them as the page opens quickly and we can store our password. Useful for them as they know how [...]
