New Friends Reunited = Pinterest meets Flickr in an an antique shop.

Friends reunited was launched in the year 2000 in the UK and was soon to be the UK's largest social network.  It allowed you to reunite with old school friends / work friends and later,  even people that lived in your childhood road. You could contact people via email on the site - but it tried to not allow you to give your msn or your email address to contact directly - there were ways around this but not everyone understood what michelle at msn dot com meant back in those days. Suddenly some add updates were made, there were meewee characters which you could use as our avatar, trying to make it more fun? AND the not so fun things, they had started to charge for emails and then for membership.  This is why users left, not the competition Facebook or Bebo - we had already decided to jump ship before we realised that Facebook and Bebo were going to be next. So now we've heard that Friends-reunited has been reunited and relaunched as a memorabilia site. When I logged on I was surprised to [...]

The redesign on Empire Avenue – Explained.

By | March 11th, 2012|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , |

I first blogged about Empire avenue 10 months ago - when I had just started. Back then I didn't realise the impact it would have on my social media strategies,  networks and more importantly I that would find a fantastic community of people that now mean a great deal to me. Anyway - I digress... Empire Avenue have relaunched a new design - which is said to engage you more with your social networks. Most people that "play" Empire avenue have always used it to engage and connect with other users, moving that to their other networks.  I think previously that was the problem, that, people that don't play Empire Avenue do not see it this way at all.  Empire avenue for me, is primarily not a game but is a way to connect and engage with a brillant community of "players".  Empire avenue is fun to play but it should also be part of your social media strategy.  It is possible to connect, interact and engage with clients and/or customers, contacts and like-minded people to help and share, when using this tool correctly. Empire [...]

Missing updates in Dashboard? – Its due to Google Friend Connect ! #RIP #GFC

By | March 4th, 2012|Categories: Tips for Bloggers|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Bloggers see the effects of losing Google friend connect. In November the Senior Vice President of Operations for Google Urs Holze announced Google were spring cleaning, part of this cleaning involved terminating Google Friend Connect for non-blogger sites, such as WordPress. This retirement went into effect on the 1st of March and bloggers that did nothing about it are now losing many page views or unique visits from people that were only viewing from Google friend connect. Google tried to encourage people to transfer subscribers to Google+ and to create Google+ page but we heard that many didn't want to have to create more work for themselves and some don't even like Google+ However, it might be something to think about as the future is clear, with the G+ button having a big impact on SEO and it all being connected with Google profiles, pages and especially business pages, I don't think its something you want to miss out on as a blogger. What they didn't suggest is Google Reader,  many use Google Reader to keep up to date with their favorite blogs [...]
