Social networking at its best with

By |2017-02-08T01:20:07+01:00December 19th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , | is a social networking platform where users can trade help for free. officially launched about two weeks ago and as far as I can make out is the work of Adam Rodnitzky, George Aspland and Scott Roberts who are all listed as co-founders. I signed up today for and I have enjoyed helping a few people out, and finding out all about it, I think it is going to be a great "help" to all. It is simple to sign up - you can just log in with your Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter and link the others and you simply connect to help others and ask for help. Its a fantastic idea, as sometimes we all need a little assistance, getting that blog seen or a tweet heard, and here you feel no shame in asking for help.  Although most of what I have seen is people helping not asking, I had to look around for people that needed help. When you ask a favor, people can answer you, or broadcast it on their various networks or vouch for [...]

Facebook video scam puts convincing personal message on your wall

By |2017-02-08T01:20:08+01:00December 16th, 2011|Categories: Scams|Tags: , , , , , , , |

More scams .... I got this today - on my Facebook wall - shared by one of my friends, you might think it is authentic as it had my name in it. It shows the link as a blogspot address which if you look at it - doesn't look too real - UYTUTIUYUIUIOU looks like someone had a heart attack at the keyboard. There is usually a telltale sign that says its a fake share - that is it on this one, apart from the fact it has a possible explicit picture beside the message.  There was another similar one recently with a different picture. Hey Michelle u wont believe!  I dare you to watch this 98% Of People Cant Watch This Video For More Than 25 Seconds I checked others that were shared and they had different messages but all with a personal touch. Amazing! dave check the sad post I dare you can watch this . Hey! kevin u wont believe! I dare you can watch this . And so on ..... Obviously this is a scam, but [...]

Three months after launching its new android 3.0 tablet application, The startup  Thoora - a content discovery engine, based in Canada. is closing... indefinitely. Purpleplanet and I first wrote about Thoora here - Aggregate and curate your favourite content - we believed then it was going strong.    Nothing has been said yet on their twitter account, which has 26k followers.... Today we received an email stating that as from the 15th December 2011 Thoora is shutting down its website, the API, the WordPress widget and the android tablet application. There is no explanation for this just as yet, they just thank everyone for the crazy journey. There is a blog post showing your how to re-bookmark your favorites Log in to your account on Thoora Access your favorites page for each topic Click on each favorite to open the content in a new browser tab or window Re-favorite the item, using your browser’s favoriting function or other tool Thoora do say at the bottom of the post that they hope to meet us all again, so maybe they have something even better up their sleeves and Thoora was [...]

Calibre ebook management for Kindle or ebook reader

By |2017-02-08T01:20:08+01:00December 11th, 2011|Categories: Reviews|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I love Calibre - Calibre is a free open source e-book library management application.  In short - it manages your eBooks like iTunes does for your tracks. I'm late to this game, as Calibre actually launched in 2006 after the release of the first e-ink based reader the Sony PRS-500. Kovid Goyal immediately realised that there were no good tools to convert the books in to the correct formats to be able to read them on the Sony, so with the help of libres500 was born, later to be changed to Calibre in 2008. Today calibre is a vibrant open-source community with half a dozen developers and many, many testers and bug reporters. It is used in over 200 countries and has been translated into a dozen different languages by volunteers. calibre has become a comprehensive tool for the management of digital texts, allowing you to do whatever you could possibly imagine with your e-book library - Kovid Goyal 2009.  How to use Calibre eBook management tool on the Kindle Its so simple to use but I will run you though the options on the interface [...]

New, new Twitter simplified? Is Old Twitter back?

By |2017-02-08T01:20:08+01:00December 8th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , |

Today on 8th December 2011 Twitter announced a new version of Twitter, they say that they have simplified the design to make it easier to follow, connect and discover. They will be rolling this version out over the next few weeks but you can already get it on mobile iPhone or Android, just download from iTunes or Marketplace. So did they bring back Old Twitter..... No I'm afraid not. However, maybe they have been listening to our complaints and problems with the last update to Twitter, as it looks pretty good.  Sadly not back to full screen but maybe more important information at the sides than the wasted space before. What the new twitter icons mean. This is your home button - where you view your lineline. Your favourite features are on the left.  All you need to see is embedded in the tweet, so you can click on photos videos or conversations easily.       Connect - This button takes you to a place that shows you who has followed or mentioned retweeted or faved your tweets.  This [...]

Facebook scam video – OMG I just hate RIHANNA after watching this video

By |2017-02-08T01:20:08+01:00December 7th, 2011|Categories: Scams|Tags: , , , |

OMG I just hate Rihanna after watching this video, has found its way to my friends facebook walls. Scammers are using celebrities we like to get to us, this time its to watch Rihanna on youtube.   Scams are sometimes connected to celebrities because hackers know people just can't wait to click that link without thinking, and by then its too late. This particular scam has been around for ages now, its changed shape or form but essentially its always the same - this is what it looks like now... As you see it tells you that you will LOST your all respect for RIHANNA after watching this, a tell-tail sign that its fake, its very bad English. As many scams or hoaxes like this is actually a survey scam -  when you click the link it will take you to a survey - and you know the rest.... if you don't, then read these! :)   These and many more are pretty much the same if not identical as the survey scam above, you don't see a video at [...]

Path 2 the Android and iPhone social networking journal

By |2017-02-08T01:20:09+01:00December 7th, 2011|Categories: Mobile apps|

Path was co founded by Dustin Mierau and Dave Morin and was originally understood to be the social network that shares your path through life with your close friends or family. However, Path has had some major updates since its first launch a year ago. Path are now suggesting that it is more of a personal private journal, with very serious security, where nothing is shared publically unless you purposely share something to another network. Path is a free iTunes application that originally enabled you to send photos and details of who you are with, where you are and what you are doing to your closest 50 friends of relatives, this didn't interest me at all, it sounded like a half pint version of Foursquare, which I don't even use all that much.  I eventually signed up to Path in August 2011 and have hardly used it, until now. Path make changes Dustin and Dave have really listened to what users want and watching how they were using Path (Mark Zuckerberg take note) and they have completely redesigned and changed how Path works. Paddington Bear Application Launched on iTunes

By |2017-02-08T01:20:11+01:00December 4th, 2011|Categories: Mobile apps|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I used to love cute little Paddington Bear when I was a child and seeing the Paddington Bear Application being launched brought it all back to me. Who is Paddington Bear? Paddington Bear is a classic story of a young bear from Darkest Peru, who ended up at Paddington Station, London, England.  Mr and Mrs Brown found him there and took him home to live with them in a semi detached house in Nottinghill London. Written by OBE Michael Bond, now 85, the first book entitled  "A Bear Called Paddington" was published in 1958 by HarpersCollins then known as William Collins and sons and the illustrator then was, Peggy Fortnum.  However picture books for younger children were published in 1975 and were illustrated by Fred Banbery. The Paddington books have sold more than thirty-five million copies worldwide and have been translated into over forty languages. Paddington made the big screen, well, Television in 1975, Please Look After This Bear designed and directed by Ivor Wood and made in the UK by FilmFair Ltd.  Pretty good stuff for 1975! :) And now we've moved on [...]
