Facebook now have to sort out privacy say FTC

By | November 30th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , |

The Federal Trade Commission said Facebook's claims about its privacy policies were unfair and deceptive and violated federal law. The Federal Trade Commission works for consumers to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices and to provide information to help spot, stop, and avoid them. The FTC have ruled that Facebook will now be required to obtain approval from users before making any changes to privacy settings or how data is shared and also stop anyone accessing a deleted account within 30 days of its deletion. This is good news. Isn't it what we said all along, opt in, not opt out!   I am not against Mark Zuckerberg or Facebook but they really need to listen to the users.  From what I've seen they aren't good listeners. In Mark Zuckerberg's blog post today he actually said... Overall, I think we have a good history of providing transparency and control over who can see your information. REALLY?  He still doesn't see that people were confused about keeping certain data or information private, or what was being shared. Then it was changed and private information suddenly [...]

By | November 20th, 2011|Categories: Tips and Tricks|Tags: , , , , , , |

There have been many people complaining about the "No Sim Card installed" message on the apple iPhone 4s. 4S Design Flaw Today we even saw a post about it on Engadget Some iPhone 4S owners reporting ominous 'No SIM card installed' messages suggesting that it could be a design flaw with the new iPhone.  Others are saying its a software problem, or many other reasons for it, the 4s is getting a real bad press now. No Sim Card installed on mobile phone problem However, the sad truth of the matter is that this has been going on since the iPhone was born, or at least the 3GS -  If you do Google search on the topic you see nothing but people asking for help or a fix or some way to solve this problem - even videos offering solutions. This comment from 2007 on a forum discussing the iPhone problem made me laugh, if only they new 4 years later. In truth, this isn't even just an iPhone problem - as @niksargent said today - Every phone I've had has had this problem from time [...]

Triberr no longer supports automatic tweeting!

By | November 19th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

What is Triberr? The basics Triberr was created by  Dino Dogan and Dan Cristo. Groups of bloggers create "tribes" where each of them can share each others posts on Twitter.   This used to be Automatic - you would just join a tribe, and every time you published a new post it would go to Triberr and everyone in your tribe would automatically tweet it to their own followers thus creating a larger audience for your website or blog. You could have your account on a manual setting - I know some people did - I used my account as manual - not because I didn't trust the other members of the tribe - I am in in a very close-nit group of great bloggers who can be trusted to post informative, interesting and positive content, however I would log in to Triberr most days and read the blogs that I was sending out and maybe comment or share them to other networking sites. I did this because... A) I had the time, where as others don't B) I want to know what is going through my [...]

Did Anonymous turn Facebook into a PORN site?

By | November 15th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , |

We saw a while back a video apparently posted by Anonymous on Youtube that boasted that they were going to hack Facebook to protest about Facebook's lack of privacy. Anonymous Facebook November 5 attack : youtube video message : hack One comment made was that deleting your Facebook account is impossible - even if you delete your facebook account all of your information is recoverable at anytime -  they explained in the video that they are taking action against Facebook on November 5th 2011 Tweets on Twitter later came from people evidently linked to anonymous saying that this was not true. Other reports said that the videos were fake. On the 5th of November we checked Facebook wondering what we would see and Facebook seemed the same, everything was still there, nothing unusual. Anonymous #Operation ''Fawkes Virus'' Released on Facebook. We then saw another video on the 10th of November which explained about #Operation "Fawkes Virus" a worm that "they" said has been released on Facebook that sends malicious links and gains access to your account. Well... over the past few days it seems that Facebook has [...]

Need an honest opinion? Ask Opinionaided.

By | November 12th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Do you need an honest opinion on something? Opinionaided is a mobile social networking application designed for asking opinions and advice to a large community in real-time.   Similar to Quora (which came after)  but from what I've seen it seems that this one is more used by the younger generation for questions such as -  Do you like my new hairstyle?  or Am I good-looking  -  whereas Quora is more for business type questions I find.  However, you can filter these questions out and just go to a specific topic. Opinionaided was launched in 2010 by founder Dan Kurani and co-founders Mike Melli and Matt Holloway and already has many users. Originally for iPhone, ipod, and iPad, but is now available on Android and Online. The interesting thing about Opinionaided is the phenomenal response rate - the first time I used it I asked a pretty lame question and within seconds I had 10 answers!  What networking site can you say that about? Its very easy to use there are five buttons at the bottom of the screen which are Home [...]

Strict Nat problem with Modern Warfare 3 – Call of Duty

By | November 9th, 2011|Categories: Games|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

The time had come! Modern Warfare 3 was released yesterday,  eager gamers - queued up to get their copy first lastnight at 12am. Only to find when they returned on that they had a strict nat not an open nat on their Xbox 360 and couldn't join any online games. We had the same problem, strange though as it often happens with us, not sure if its due to the ip address not being static or the fact something is set up wrong on the router, but set everything up correctly for two Xboxes on the router - anyway I digress. This is what we do, when one of the xboxes have a strict nat - we do this on the xbox - not the router. Follow this video its as easy as pie and takes 5mins - Fix your nat settings for xbox360 this should work, if only for the time being. Otherwise Xbox has their own instructions here - Error: Your NAT type is set to strict (or moderate) Last Modified 9/8/2011 If you can’t join online games or hear other [...]

Buffer for Facebook is offically launched

By | November 9th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|

We first mentioned about buffer for facebook in August, but now it has finally arrived.  You can now schedule your Facebook posts to be shared at better times, so they are spaced out over the day.   This is of course for the heavy user, or business that shares a lot of posts, blogs or infomation, not really for Jenny who likes to tell all about her trip to the hairdressers', those statuses should always be instant and in realtime! ;) And there's more! Dual Posting via Buffer  You can now post the same update to both Facebook and Twitter OR have them posted to either network only - just click on your face to toggle! On the dashboard is now less clutter so you can concentrate on your content. There appears to be a lot of integration between Facebook and Twitter lately - is it just me, or do they appear to be ganging up on Google+ Maybe thats another blog post! :)   Upgraded Browser Extensions With Facebook access, Buffer have upgraded your browser extension automatically. Links are now shortened automatically and the new editor allows [...]

Scam Alerts – Facebook, Girl killed herself scam & Twitter email

By | November 1st, 2011|Categories: Scams|

There are two scams flying around the internet, one on Facebook and the other is a variation on email scams, designed to hack. Facebook -  Girl Killed Herself on Halloween After Dad Posted This on Her Wall - The scam link shows this picture. This is just a rerun by scammers of the past which as usual is spreading deathly fast! Excuse the pun! It actually has the cheek to ask you to share and recommend it before you've even been taken to the link to see if it is real. As usual this doesn't take you to a video or even an update but to a online survey. I'd like to say luckily enough as who really wants to see whatever that content is. The picture is gruesomeness people! Twitter email scams We have seen and are getting other reports of various scams being sent via email - pretending to be a notification from Twitter.com. The message either says, You have been banned or blocked on Twitter (I got this one -  Funny as I was already logged in when [...]
