Where are my @mentions on Twitter?

By | August 30th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Where are my @mentions!! Did you think you were very unpopular today, were you worried that you weren't getting many Tweets? Its okay it's not just you - many people have not been getting @mentions or replies for a few hours now, some since yesterday. This is a Twitter.com problem so changing applications isn't going to help I'm afraid, you'll have have to keep a good eye on your timeline for @mentions or try searching, which isn't great.   Something like a Tweetdeck search would be best. I first noticed people complaining about missing tweets this morning when Jack Schofield - British Technology Journalist tweeted out. And then later today - the lovely Dawn Porter -  British television presenter and writer wrote. Poor Dawn was very upset, she said that she was getting DM's but no replies and it was like talking to herself! There doesn't appear to be anything regarding this on the Twitter Status page as yet about the missing mentions, and @twitter desite all the plea's for help have said nothing, and as they don't appear to have anyone [...]

By | August 29th, 2011|Categories: Social Media|Tags: , , , , , , |

What is Buffer for Facebook  Buffer or @bufferapp was founded by Joel Gascoigne  and co founded by Leo Widrich who both wanted to create a smarter way to Tweet great articles that you find. The Twitter Buffer app was recently seen on Mashable.com 's  Spark of Genius section where each week a new start-up is covered. This is sponsored by Microsoft BizSpark. You can get Buffer for Twitter here - http://bufferapp.com/ Buffer for Facebook is coming.  Do you share a lot of posts on your Facebook, maybe your own blogs or articles you have read, and because you only get on Facebook for a short amount of time each day they tend to be bunched up all together?  Then this could be for you. Buffering... Its a way to get your Facebook updates spread out and so you get noticed more. Buffer helps you post more consistently by allowing you to choose set times to post each day. Once you've chosen the times, you simply keep a 'buffer' of posts topped up and the application will automatically post on your behalf. Simply - Buffer [...]

My impressions of the Nokia X7

By | August 26th, 2011|Categories: Mobile - Reviews and News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

I was recently given a Nokia X7 to test out for review from WOMworld Nokia  - my first impressions were of the box actually, the box looked more like something that you would get from Apple (except it was blue) than Nokia, not that a box matters really.  It was just compact and smart looking, I hate it when you get a massive box with lots of plastic with a mobile phone lost inside it, there is no need. On opening the box I was met with the stylish 8 megapixel Smartphone with a 4inch Amoled touchscreen. The X7 is pleasing to the eye, as it is not a standard rectangle shape but each of the corners have a grill design which angle inwards slightly creating an unusual and futuristic appearance. It is solid to touch but also light, it feels good quality and comfortable in your hand. The Gorilla glass scratch protection screen not only is great to look at but is very responsive this makes me happy, especially when this phone is designed for entertainment, the last thing you want [...]

Apple – Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO

By | August 24th, 2011|Categories: Business|Tags: , , , , , |

Steve Jobs has resigned as the chief executive  of Apple Inc  - Apple are saying that Tim Cook  the previous Chief Operating Officer is taking over his position. This comes after Steve aged 66 has been on medical leave for pancreatic cancer since January. There is a letter on the Apple press info website from  Steve Jobs to the Apple Board of Directors which reads as follows –To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community: I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee. As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success [...]

Twitter News – Activity Arrives and A Hack Attack

By | August 24th, 2011|Categories: Social Networks|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Twitter news... You may have heard that Twitter has launched another change on Twitter.com; I'll keep this brief as you will see for yourself soon enough. Activity  This shows favorites, follows, retweets, and more by people that you follow - this is next to @mentions, which now has your @name and retweets has gone  - this is being rolled out slowly as not everyone has it yet. I'm not sure about the usefulness of this yet, it makes it harder to see your retweets - but at least it is on another page and you have to click to see it.   One thing maybe to remember is that everything you do now, show's up in picture form for everyone to see, well maybe not EVERYTHING :) Some people are loving these new changes in Twitter, but some say its ruining what we once  had, simplicity - I do have to agree.  I wonder what your view is, do you like these changes from the #oldtwitter to the new? In other news...... New Phishing Attack There is another new Phising [...]

Did Google+ help with the Facebook improvements

By | August 24th, 2011|Categories: Social Networks|Tags: , , , , , |

Yesterday The Facebook Blog  announced on a very mixed up post that they are making a "bunch of improvements" so that it is easier to share our posts and photos.   These improvements are starting to roll out over the next few days - you'll know when you have them as you will see a prompt for a tour, which might not be a bad idea to do.  Hopefully I can make it clearer for you what the changes are. Photos and Posts Facebook are making the sharing options next to the posts and photos on a drop down menu instead of being on a settings page. These options were there already just not in the right place.  There are also more changes to help with privacy and sharing.  Which does make it look a little bit more like Google+ but I'll leave that for you to decide. Profile This will help with people understanding who they share with, right here on your profile it actually says who are you are sharing this information with - I like this! Photo [...]

Twitter galleries launched some users want disabled

By | August 23rd, 2011|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Twitter User Galleries User galleries on Twitter aggregate the images you've uploaded in your Tweets into an organized page where you can view all of your most recent images. The images included in user galleries can come from Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram and other image sharing services supported in Twitter's details pane.Technical Limitations of User Galleries: User galleries will display up to 100 most recent images in your Tweets, in chronological order. Video thumbnails will not be included. Tweets with video links will not be included in user galleries. Images in Tweets will not be displayed if the Tweet was sent before January 1, 2010. This is how your profile page will now appear, and you won't see more pictures until you click view all, and then it looks like the screenshot above. Fantastic right?  ..... Maybe not so great, people have started to see the new Twitter user gallery on their profiles today and are asking how to remove it.  They don't like their photos being on their profile page.  Another problem that I have just discovered is that if you manually retweet or click [...]
